What's the end goal here? Chet blossoms? SGA stays? They convince a SUPERstar player to go there when they want out, then unload the picks?

Build a winner, than wait for Chet and/or SGA to demand a trade to the Lakers and get the s*** end of the deal after not winning a title. It's science.

big pick up for phx at the minimum. sounds like gordon was just weighing minimums from contenders, despite the "more lucrative offers" stuff (probably slightly over min).

btw, portland needs to deliver lillard to some place not named miami. this is what i've been talking about in the months (years)-long lead up to dame's trade request. he was working overtime to play the good guy, but in the end he comes off pretty bad to me. signing a supermax and then demanding a trade to a single destination that lacks the appropriate trade assets? that's lame. if you knew this was even a remote possibility, you should have asked out earlier or not signed the extra massive extension, imo.

anyway, he doesn't have a no-trade clause, and that contract is long. so if i were a team with the assets, i'd definitely pull a kawhi here.

I don't know, he gave them all he had plus more. He stayed when he was promised they will be competitive. Back in March when they were close to that 10th spot, Portland just gave up even when Dame thought they could make a run. They promised to use the 3rd pick to get an asset and they didn't do it. Portland made promises and didn't dliver.

It's not like Miami is completely devoid of assets, they have their 2024 pick plus their 2027 and 2029 picks. They could give those out plus pick swaps and young players like Caleb Martin, Jovic, Jaime Jaquez as well as contracts to match like Lowry, Herro, Robinson and finally take some bad contracts like that awful Nurkic contract.

I think Miami has alot more assets then people realize. Give him to Pat Riley and Lakers east as them being better means Boston will keep on losing.

Dame gave them everything, but he was paid handsomely. They have no reason to take a worse package just because. If they do, fire the GM.

Worse package compared to who? I'll put that Miami package against any other package. What's philly got? Brooklyn? Miami has 1st and 2nd round picks, pick swaps, young talent, contracts and the ability to take back bad contracts like that awful Nurkic deal. What more could anyone ask for, especially in a deal where your player is 32/33 and prolly on his last big contract.

If they get Caleb Martin, Herro and T. Bryant(S&T) and picks, there’s not many willing to go for Dame that will beat this.

Not only that but lets say Brooklyn decides, they are in too then Miami can put up 3 1st round picks plus 2nd round picks plus pick swaps with Martin, Jovic, Jaquez plus taking in that Nurkic deal plus giving up Herro, Lowry (buy out), Robinson (stretch), then there's no one out there that will offer a better package.

Build a competitive team who's a superstar away and then pull the trigger. Would Dame want out in 2 years, they probably do it.

They're building assets while the team grows. Have a bunch of young guys with potential and will likely fight for a playoff spot this year.

    I like what they're doing

i feel like okc (presti) has earned some benefit of the doubt, but i also agree with kb that i can't seen the endgame. sga is all-nba. right now. and you're eating salary for picks, still. maybe he galaxy-brains us all, but i feel like he's just treading water in ways that help one keep their status.

when you've got a first-team all-nba-er in his prime, you strike. btw, the lillard gamble is EXACTLY what okc should use those picks on, imo. throw lillard in there with sga, giddey, dort, etc. (i'd send holmgren to portland in the deal) and try to compete with big boys. it's time.

i think it's more just welcoming (back) the guys. but he should be happy. we have continuity and talent. if he and AD are up to the challenge, we have near even odds against anybody. that's what you want as a star player.

If there were 10 teams then you would've named them. There's not one team that can put up a better package then Miami. You overvalue a 6'2 guard who's gonna be 33 and on his last great deal. History has shown small guards past 35 don't age well. He has maybe 2 to 3 years left before he either retires or is at best a 6th man. You think SA or Houston is gonna pay a big price for a 33 year old guard? You think Philly, Clips or Brooklyn can beat Miami's deal. You think Portland wants to trade him in conference? The answer to all your questions is HELL NO!

What's this Lillard hate? SO Portland trades him to the east and makes Miami better. WHats the big deal? It only helps us that hes in the east and kicking Boston's a**.
