I’ll repeat what I said there, don’t gut the team for Kyrie or Young. In the case of Kyrie we’d be hard capped and most of our players would be minimum contracts yet again. We made the playoffs this year because we added depth and were able to keep winning even when LeBron was out injured. It got us all the way to the WCF where we just ran into a better team. If we’re to take Rob at his word from today he wants to stay on the depth route as well, so here’s hoping.

Personally, I am leaning towards us doing a rebuild, but we likely need to stay in win-now mode with Lebron still on the team. I wonder if there is a world where we trade AD, while keeping Lebron? Lakers could get a better second option for Lebron. AD has to be my least favorite Lakers star of all time. I didn't appreciate the way he acted when Lebron broke the record, among other things. Deep down, I don't think Lebron appreciates AD's antics either.

I'm a Team Depth guy rather than break the lineup for a 3rd star (Kyrie / Trae / even Dame). Others made the excellent point that with LeBron and AD we will need depth because neither will ever be super durable from this point further.

A Kyrie trade is damn near impossible, that's all media hype. We should have done it this summer though IMO, too late now. Other than that, any trade idea that doesn't involve Lebron, AD Rui, and Austin I'm all ears for it. We have a couple of nice contracts attached to two players, we could find two better fits at their salary, and not touch the core 4 at all. Every thing outside of the core 4 should be up for discussion and on the table. I don't think running the entire team back, is going to get the job done next season. The other Western Conference teams, will be looking to upgrade their rosters too. I definitely don't think that Denver, is going to rule the West or something , for the next couple of years either.

If we don’t plan to contend we could trade AD, to start a rebuild, but if we do he’s going nowhere. I’ve criticized him plenty, but we don’t get as far as we do without him, he pretty much got us past Memphis by himself with how he played defense, he shut them down. What we likely need to do is add more scoring around him, add a big that can score inside next to him possibly, to make up for him not being able to do literally everything on the court at the same time. Who that would be I have no idea, but when AD is healthy and locked in on defense he is so good he can get you far as we just saw, I’m not trading him unless it’s for someone better than him, which is maybe a handful of guys, or like I said if we plan to rebuild completely.

Most of the names being thrown out by the media sound pretty out there to me.

I actually like Trae but wouldn’t break up a team or sell the farm for him. A little surprised to hear that we are throwing our hat in that ring.

I think there could be some major movement this summer though especially with Bostons collapse. It will be interesting to see how things shake out.

Bit surprised at how high up Miami is on this first chart. I guess they shouldn't be considered to be overachieving at all.

Not sure what exactly to make of the 2nd chart...teams are spending a higher pct of their salary cap, on their top 3 players these days?

A personal dislike of mine: pundits and fans keep slotting Lebron in at the 3. He isn’t a 3 offensively and defensively and basically has never played that for us. He is a PF and that knock on effect is why Davis has been our C.

It also leads into the fact that I think as great as Rui has been, he isn’t a starting level defensive small forward. I’d slot him in as the backup 3. Ideally I’d like a SF who can defend and hit the 3 - someone like Royce O’Neale. It would really even out our roster:

    AD / -
    Lebron / Vando
    Royce / Rui
    AR / - / Christie
    - / Schroeder

In this scenario we trade DLo to the nets for Royce and something else? I mentioned Claxton initially but that’s probably a pipe dream. Maybe Joe Harris as that SG shooter?

At that point we just need to figure out our backup C and PG situation.

yeah, keep this current group together and make some minor moves

swinging for the fences again will only bite them in the a** like it did with westbrick. trading the future to gamble on one more year of lebron would be disastrous for this franchise

    Some good Haynes Klutch sourcing.

A player "like" Kyrie. Who's like Kyrie but not Kyrie?

dinwiddie and oneale for russell makes a ton of sense to me, tbh, for both teams. bkn's got bridges, the cams, and harris at the wing. russell can do more than dinwiddie and would be locked up long-term in such a scenario.

we'd get great-fitting placeholders without compromising future flexibility.

just pick up bamba's option, use the tpmle on schroder, and see how things shake out with troy, lonnie, and wenyen (all could possibly return at low cost, imo).

I wish the team would publicly come out and firmly say, "we are not interested in Kyrie Irving" so media personalities can stop with those suggestions. He is a cancer and his talents are not worth the trouble he brings. I say they use our 17th pick, Mo Bamba, and possibly even AD to put the right pieces around Lebron for a final run, inclusive of Austin Reaves, either D'Lo or Schroder, Rui, Lonnie, and a replacement big if AD goes. I'm great with AD staying but as someone else here said, between him and Bron, those 2 are not likely to both be healthy for the entire season plus a long playoff run. Would love to get Dame, Oladipo, or Middleton maybe

We ready have that guy in Reaves. A shooter like Simmons or Rozier next to him is all we need. Am I missing something here? Do the Lakers see Reaves as a 2, not a 1? Could they be eying Scoot Henderson?
