Hate to break it to ya, but they are in front of us. They have a great head coach, their players are probably 2 years a head of us and it's the East. Over the course of the next 4 years, the Bucks will probably have more success than the Lakers based on those 3 factors. That all changes if Randle and Russell come out like gang busters. But based on what we know right now, there are very few team with a worse basketball situation than us over the next 3 years.
They're not numbered yet, but their seat is getting mighty hot right now. They better have an ace in the hole because this off-season is looking really sad so far. Sad and sobering. ESPN is having a field day with it. They love our demise.
I don't consider Kidd a great coach. And again, that's not the point. The point was never that our basketball situation was great. We all understand that. There's other vastly more quantifiable aspects of the Lakers that should help with at least the YOUNG FAs, but we can't even get them. It's a sad state we're in as a franchise and our FO is a huge part of that mess. This is their bed and I know a lot of fans want some of us to relax, but this is a big indictment on Mitch and Jim and Jeanie. They're doing a bad job right now.
Yeah, but I think if you offer him 4-5 million per, the Rockets would let him walk, and if they match, you just put 5 million on the Rockets cap sheet. At this point, tying up 4-5 million doesn't effect us at all. The only free agents that MIGHT receive a max that unspoken for would fit in our cap space with the 5 million tied up.
I don't think Indy is that desperate to get rid of him. Houston only gave us a first because they were convinced they were getting Bosh.
But what are those quantifiable aspects? Social media has made the world smaller. You can easily thrive in a small market as a superstar. Weather? They're in the gym most of the season anyway. When they do have time to actually enjoy the weather, it's the offseason. They can just have a summer home out here. Does Monroe have aspirations to be an actor? Probably not so that is lost on him. I mean, the only real tangible difference between the Lakers and Bucks with this new CBA and ever shrinking world is...what? We love our wining tradition, etc. But if didn't grow up a Laker fan, you probably don't care or maybe even despise it. Do you look at the Yankees and fawn over their winning tradition?
Mitch is placing certain value on players and isn't going to throw money around just because we have it. That's asking to get yourself in trouble. The iron is still heating up y'all, I have no doubt in my mind that if it gets hot, well strike. Everyone's value and demand is sky high in the beginning of free agency, now is the time everyone comes back down to earth and you can get solid/value/fair signings. I'll gladly understand if we don't get anyone, but PLEASE, give them a chance.. It's only round four of the fight.
The ESPN talking heads can't even hide their glee right now. Just completely rolling us and for once, I can't even defend us. I think most of their thoughts are pretty accurate.
Like therealdeal said, I am updating (or try to update) the first post in this thread: http://lakersball.com/threads/nba-2015-16-free-agency-thread.1003/
Thank you thats what ive been saying Everybody wants to be handed the world in a silver platter Give me a guy that WANTS to be the man and has the balls to say i CAN & i'll PROVE it before any of those other SOFT guys that dont have the courage to step into another great's shoes and carry the torch.
This seems to be the problem here. The front office is thinking this way too. If a player wants to win he's a idiot for choosing a team that offers that opportunity over a team promising glitz, more opportunity at $$ and name recognition. I'd want players who want to win vs the ones who would be lured by glitz, more opportunity at $$ and name recognition. Character make up is more important on championship teams than skills most times. Plain and simple, we need to be the team that is ready to win. Right now we are not close and the picks we need to be that team have been seen as a less valuable commodity than others in the league over the years. We didn't maintain our team with younger talent and went over the cliff to last season. We may be like this for awhile. Next year there will be even more competition for FA and why does a 30 year old prime player come here over one of the other 14 teams with max slots? If you look at it going back to 2000 the "Laker Mystic" has yielded very little in the FA market. I've written it before; my fear is that in our need to make a splash we do something stupid by trading for a "broken player" like Cousins.
Well, unfortunately, Stars Win Titles. Every team that has won a Title for the past 25 years (besides Detroit) has had a player that has won a league MVP at some point.. That's just reality.
Monroe's agent says Lakers offered max and he picked Milwaukee over LA. Damn http://www.cbssports.com/nba/eye-on...es-agent-says-knicks-lakers-offered-max-deals
