The Sixers hiring D’Antoni to get the best out of 33 year old Harden would be a lot like us hiring D’Antoni to maximize a 39 year old Nash. Just nonsensical given the stage of the guy’s career and the rest of the roster. Harden had the two amazing games but he’s always terrible at the end of series and he can’t get all the way to the rim anymore. They need to move Harden (maybe they could finally get Beal, I know they wanted him before) and give Maxey more responsibility.

This will probably be a wildly unpopular take, but I’d look at trading Vando in the off-season. He’s been really fun to have on the team for the last few months, but we’re starting to see his very real limitations. Against the Warriors he was really detrimental to the offense in the starting group; our shots at the rim skyrocketed when it was Rui or a smaller player in his place. I don’t think he’s a good fit for this Nuggets series either.

If you could move Vando/Beasley/draft compensation for another wing that’s a little more of a two-way player, that might be ideal.

depends on his contract. He is a good sub when we need a defensive catalyst. There have been lots of defensive specialists that found themselves playing on championship caliber teams. You cannot discount that skillset, however in todays game, there are going to be teams he does not match up well against, but there will be teams where he is a perfect matchup.

100% agree, and if we do advance I think we’d really need him against Miami or Boston. He’s on the books for $4.6 million next season, him + Beasley if we pick up the option could return a $20 million guy. Another legit two-way wing would be a massive help but those guys don’t grow on trees.

I mean it depends on the offer. If you can get a Jerami Grant or similar, I'm down. But fit matters, Grant complained about potential role/ touches/ minutes when he name was in rumors when he was a Piston.

Vando might not be a 16 game player, but he'll come up big in at least a handful of those. He's definitely an 82 game player and that matters in the regular season slog. That energy and motor is big time during the dog days of the season.

You're going to have a hard time beating that value at $4.7m, which is what he'll earn next year. I do see a scenario where Vando moves to the bench and we start Rui next year on his new contract. If he keeps improving with Handy, especially defensively, then he's my starting wing next season.

The guy takes 3 or 4 shots a game, and makes less than 5 million. Trade him for what?

it is; and i'm actually starting to bristle a bit at folks not recognizing what vando's brought here. if you liked caruso, you should like vando. i'd look to extend him at the highest value we can, and if he says no (which is possible), then i consider moving him so as not to lose him for nothing.

but this is a 6'9" athletic guy who plays hard all the time and is a smart defender and isn't as big an anchor on offense as people say (imo). he can take out #2-level offensive options without any help at more than one position. we would have killed for a guy like this 6 months ago, and now he's not good enough.

waiting to see what happens when teams exploit rui's lack of perimeter footspeed on defense while he's making thrice vando's contract next year...

He doesn't have a 3pt shot I guess...that being such a big deal, with the Lakers having been outscored from 3 by 150 pts or in the playoffs so far. IDK We have the best defense in the playoffs, but for some reason, everything still revolves around the offense.

We literally just saw the Warriors not guard him so effectively that he went from guarding Curry in Game 1 to not playing any meaningful minutes in the close out game. That was the right call. The difference between him and Caruoso is that Caruso got to play with versions of LeBron and AD that were much better offensively. Their jump shots weren’t broken and they could get to the rim easier. In their current state, LeBron need guys that don’t clog up the lane. The numbers speak for themselves:

All I’m really saying is that, if the opportunity is there, a Vando + Beasley or Vando + Bamba type of trade for someone like a Dorian Finney-Smith would be net beneficial for the team. Is that really that controversial?

Embiid could work with dantoni, just fire up 15 threes a game big man. And a slow PnR with Harden. Offensively they’d be potent.

    I disagree with your take.
Vando is an absolute steal at his current contract. Yes, he will be outmatched. Yes he will not be a fit all the time and sometimes will be unplayable. But he is a GREAT defender at all positions, always available, big energy guy night in night out, great attitude regardless of play 30 or 5 minutes and you absolutely NEED that to go through a season, especially when you have 2 stars who won't play every night. You need him in those 82 games. Absolutely need him. He gets you a handful of wins just with his presence alone. He's the guy that represents Ham's culture

Come playoff time, he may not play in a series. But he may also win you one. We don't have anything like him in the roster. Unless you're trading for OG Anunoby, you'll always lose that trade.

Regarding Wemby, good for him he'll land in SA. It's a great organization for him. I wished Lillard got some luck in his career (apparently they lost the #1 seed by one ball) but it will be entertaining to see Wemby develop with San Antonio.

We’ve harped at the front office for poor asset management. Now that they’ve gone out and got us some pieces I’m in no hurry to ship them out.

very few people in the league are untouchable but we have to be careful about shipping guys out because they had some bad games here and there. Especially young guys who are good defenders.

Also, I think its good to keep in mind how long the group has actually been together. While I love how quickly Rui has been able to plug in and contribute, it's not odd to me that some of the other new guys have been a bit up and down as they find their role on the team and develop chemistry with each other.
