The priority should be a 2020 version of Dwight. We badly need a competent backup C. I like Gabriel, but he is too small.

I mean, yeah, I can get behind Luka. He'd be alright.

I remember when Staples was first opened and I believe it was Chick and Stew talking about how it seemed that the long ball shooters had problems here. Someone in the broadcast booth talked about the depth perception behind the basket was different than almost every other arena. They talked about crowd placement and the angle of the seats, blah blah blah. But whatever it is, it continues to haunt us.

I continue to think that the 3pt shooting stuff is overrated. That 3pt heavy style of play works for some teams, it's just not necessary for us. We won a chip with a mediocre 3pt shooting team, we are about to knock off the poster boy of the 3pt shooting attack in the Warriors. I just don't think it's the big deal, some folks make it out to be.

i've been a big proponent of winning in different ways--i was pushing back a lot against bringing in one-dimensional shooters in a russ trade, for example--but you have to be able to knock down open ones at a respectable clip.

if we have russell and reaves in the back court starting, that could be enough, provided we're good enough on defense. but it would help if we had a couple more guys teams worried about.

still bummed beasley's been so bad. both he and bamba just made a ton of sense on paper here.

Yeah sometimes theoretical fits don't exactly pan out as expected. Malik still has a chance to make some impact I suppose. It might only be for a game or two, or a stretch of a game. He's on the roster, it doesn't hurt to have options. He most definitely hasn't earned that team option for next season though. Bamba..missing a month with that ankle sprain hurt him, he didn't have enough time to earn some trust from the staff IMO. Again same with him, it's possible that he might get some burn, but I think Malik is more likely to get a chance than Mo.

I haven't given up completely on either one yet. That said, Beas has a $16 million option next year which isn't nothing and Bamba makes 10. Might look to move them for a more guaranteed upgrade if it's possible. Just not clear on them really. They could both still play roles here this playoffs. We'll see. I was happy to get both of them.

They have value. There is no question about it. Lakers just won't be able to pay everybody, and those two are the odd men out. Unless they don't want to bring back Russell for whatever reason, then you could look into picking up their options and trading them, but very doubtful you get am upgrade over Dlo.

If Kobe threw up in his mouth like GP2 did, he would have just swallowed it and kept playing. Today's players are so soft.

Reminds me of the time I had the privilege of meeting Laker legend Lucius Allen through my job, about11-12 years ago. We got to talking and he told me the story of a UCLA game he played in that was held in an outdoor arena for some special occasion (I think there have been some college games like that recently, maybe even on an aircraft carrier?). He said nobody could make any shots because the depth perception was screwing with everyone'. He finally realized that instead of using his traditional sightlines, he got his bearings by focusing on the hashmarks on the court, and from then on he was basically the only player who could score consistently and he more or less took over the game.

Side note: he REEKED of weed. ;)

That is a good story! It was an aircraft carrier, almost certain. Lucius was good back then.

there's been smoke around brown all year, wonder what the deal is.

if i'm a bad team, i'd give a healthy package. his game has expanded beyond what i thought was possible, and he probably still has some room to grow, tbh. could be a harden situation, where when he gets his own team built around him, he becomes a worthy #1 after being thought of as a secondary guy.

hat tip to realdeal (god rest his internet soul) who was on that bandwagon from the get go.

I didn't think he had this level of offense to him. His stats are already really good for a #1 option and he's putting them up as a #2. He needs to solidify that 3 ball a little, looked like he was getting there before this year's regression. With his own set of keys, I'm curious as to what that looks like. I don't think they move him unless they can get a top 5 guy, like when they dangled him for KD. That said, I don't think he or Tatum are lifers in Boston. Can't wait for when they're back to being bad.

I think the most likely move for Boston if they drop this series is to move on from Smart and see what that brings back. They can start Brogdon in his place. Horford can't play forever, they'll probably need to look at that.

Memphis should go all in for him. They probably wouldn't be able to get it done, but Ja, Bane, Brown, JJJ, Adams would be scary.

Hot take: if it were me, I'd move Ja to get Brown.

Tyus Jones, Bane, Brown, JJJ, Adams is still really really good in a different way, and you can use your picks to shore up depth.

i think if he really wants out, they can and should move him for a couple high quality role players and draft picks. something like the kd package with fewer draft picks.

if i knew what he'd prefer (to be a #1 or just a change of scenery), i could come up with a bunch of fun trades. one that popped into my mind: straight up for KAT.

how about portland for simons and nassir little?

atl for dejounte murray and capela?

    tor for anunoby and achiuwa?

i don't think smart brings back much on his own, tbh. he's basically caruso-ish. everybody wants him but nobody wants to give anything up for him.

horford's huge there. i don't think they'll be able to replace him, so when the tires go bald, they're screwed. they'll eventually have to rob peter to pay paul. it's why they need to win now.

if i were memphis, i'd move ja for him. but i think boston might balk, tbh. they'd probably prefer jjj (not happening). i do think that bane, clarke (achilles, but cost-controlled solid player who should be able to come back, imo), and some picks might work, again if brown is insistent upon leaving.

I think it matters less if it's a pairing with a player who plays a different position -- pair him with a C or PG. I think there would be a power struggle in Minny with Ant. Not really a team with a top 4 C where it makes sense. You listed 2 of the 3 best options a PG with Blazers and Hawks. It's basically a consolidation play of what the Blazers have been trying to pair Dame with in recent years. Instead of 3 decent-good wings that are between a 3rd to 6th option, get one who's at worse a #2 option and their #1 guy when Dame rides off. The other place with a PG where he'd thrive is Dallas but they have nothing to offer.

See, I see him more as what Pat Bev sees when he looks in the mirror. He's an elite defend at the guard position, vocal, and could be a culture setter on a team needing a rudder. He'd be a good replacement for Brooks in Memphis. I don't think AC has that vocal presence to him.
