Who have we missed out on this summer? Aldridge? Jordan? Who else? Marc isn't even taking meetings with anyone else. Love was always going to re-sign. Yeah, our pitch had the wrong focus, but we don't really have much else to focus on. I'm sure we brought up our young rooks, I'm sure we brought up our plan to make moves with our cap space next year. But we had to focus on business as our advantage since as optimistic as we might be about the basketball situation, it's uncertain. Aldridge has the choice to replace Splitter in the starting front court of a team that won a championship 2 years ago ... or playing out of position on a team with a bunch of rookies. It sucks, but those are the cards we're dealing with. Be upset with our past mistakes that got us in this situation, but I don't have any issues with how we've dealt with this free agency so far. I'll be upset if we decide we truly want to target Monroe and he decides to go with New York anyways.
An excerpt from Mark Medina's piece on meeting with DJ: The Lakers’ meeting with Jordan featured coach Byron Scott, general manager Mitch Kupchak, assistant general manager Glenn Carraro, senior vice president of business operations Tim Harris, team spokesman John Black, representatives from Time Warner Cable SportsNet, according to a league source familiar with the meeting. Kobe Bryant, Lakers president Jeanie Buss and executive Jim Buss attended the team’s meeting on Tuesday with Aldridge, but were not part of the team’s presentation for Monroe and Jordan. It is not currently clear what Jordan took away from the Lakers’ meeting. http://bit.ly/1CbX61C Makes me feel MUCH better. (Seriously)
We were "professional"...woooh. Step in the right direction. Next goal is to be "impressive"...or "modern". Lord...
NOLA has never been to the finals. We're a proven franchise that wins decade after decade. Who cares about NOLA's current roster. He just wasted 6 years of his life competing in the playoffs but not winning rings.
Not here to disagree but you sound like your heart is in the way of your head. Lakers can't woo players based upon reference to the past lest we turn into the al Davis of the NBA - that translates to just lose baby (sorry raiders fans)
^ @Chillbongo Late to the party. Turner is a Texas guy. Mannix is a neutral national guy and he said the Lakers were professional, but both sides were tired and so the meeting wasn't necessarily exciting.
FYI Nola is this close to being a contender because of the guy they just gave that contract to and because people Want to play on his team and go to battle with him
Who'd we miss out on that we needed and would have realistically signed here? (Not arguing. I'm honestly asking because i havne't been following everything too closely.)
I'm obviously a Laker fan but if I'm a free agent and I have to decide between Lakers and *insert s***ty franchise* I have to think at one point, THESE GUYS KNOW HOW TO WIN. That has to go through their head, no?
Ah thanks TRD. I love what journalism has become. Despite how horse turdy that tweet was - the masses - including players, are going to see that and it's going to lessen our luster as an organization and FA destination.
It's all BS. Seriously, how the hell would the media know how DJ felt. As if he'd walk out of the meeting, stop by the reporter and say "guys, I'm underwhelmed, it's between the Clips or Mavs" I'm sure he'd keep it to himself and sleep on it for at least one night.
Question, why bring TWC reps to these meetings? Seriously, other than we have our own TV station. What are they going to do, pitch a TV show like they did to Dwight?
Honestly....in my opinion only Tyson Chandler. That was a need fit at a need vacany. You could throw Jimmy buckets in....but was he ever really leaving chi? The true pain will come when Monroe/RoLo/Harris don't sign.
