mavs would take it and run, imo. they won't have space regardless.

well, yeah, but simply re-signing russell--at almost any cost, tbh--is one of the better things.

certainly. if you ignore that kyrie has been a problem off the court every place he's been, he's definitely a better player. oh, and if you ignore that he's also injured most of the time. hard pass. he's better. but it's moot. because one way or another, he won't be there.

That sucks. That makes the evil empire's path to the finals that much easier.

    No to Kyrie.

again, the Nets saved us from ourselves as I believe if they had operated in good faith the front office would’ve trade for Kyrie. While I get the allure at the time since things clearly weren’t working with Westbrook, we dodged a bullet when the Mavs jumped in to spite us.

We’ve got a good group of guys that actually have instant good chemistry with each other. That’s really tough to do. They like playing with each other and for Ham.

    Leave it alone.

Make some smaller moves if we can use Beasely or someone to get better but the focus needs to be on bringing this group of guys back.

I would not go out of our way to sign him. Our priority should be resigning our current guys, but if he fell into our hands with a miraculous way to sign him, I would do it.

I feel like he’s going to string thing along again. I just prefer we side step all of that, bring as much of this group back as we can and focus on smaller moves that can shore up weaknesses.

I don’t think you can ignore Kyrie’s warts. He is injury prone, expensive and an absolute headcase. I’m sticking with DLo personally. But what if the front office wants another star? There’s worse outcomes than DLo and Beasley for Kyrie is all I’m saying.

If he does that, then we will have to move on. Anyone who wants to be on our team is going to need to work with us so that we can sign people in order or what the economics require.

I am leaning towards DLO but nothing any of us say now, is going to matter later. These things have a life of their own and we have no idea what the players involved will say or do. If DLO wanted a max and Kyrie decided to take less to come here, then it would be worth considering. On the other hand, if things went the other way, then DLO would be hard to walk away from. Hell, one of them could do something really super stupid between now and then. I will wait and see. Bottom line is I like this team and would hate the risk the team by making that change. I don't think Kyrie is worth dismissing entirely but a lot can happen between now and then. I ain't gonna sweat it.

To me, it’s not even about “Kyrie v. DLO.” I just don’t want Kyrie, period. It would necessarily destroy our depth and I think we’ve now seen over and over again that 2 all-stars plus solid role players is better than 3 all-stars plus minimum contracts. And that’s before we get to the inevitable headaches this anti-Semitic nutcase would cause. Lastly, it would signify to me that our front office learned absolutely nothing over the last couple of years and turned this season around by accident.

Big no to Kyrie under any circumstance. Body is too fragile and his brain too small. If Bron says he wants Kyrie , you tell him you get one colossal screw up after joining the Lakers and you already took your in the Russell Westbrook trade.

Tim Cato of The Athletic, covers the Mavs, had an update on Kyrie to LA and some of the Mavs off-season plans.

First the Kyrie of it all...

    Regarding the Lakers
Mavs think they can get him to stay (they thought the same about Brunson)
Mavs saw an opportunity when Kyrie went full racist
Mavs are counting on Ky's relationship with Kidd and Nico playing a factor
If they max him, Luka should demand a trade immediately

    The frontcourt failure
Everyone other than Luka will likely be available for a trade but only three players + their likely pick has any value
Wood is not expected to be back (no I don't want him either before those ideas trickle in)
    THJ could be moved
The big targets -- Ayton and Middleton

Empty stats, poor locker room fit and has been shown the door with every team he's been with -- 7 teams in 7 years. He's a perennial loser.

Dwight had a resumé. Took an Orlando team to the Finals. Was the best defensive big in the league for a stretch. While he had peak athleticism, he was nearly unstoppable in the regular season. It wasn't until the injuries, the decline in athleticism, and role and fit stopped making sense on various teams at his price tag.

Dwight spent 8 years with the Magic. That's more years with one team than Wood has been in the league for. Wood is in his prime at 27 and can't stick somewhere.

Wood has a resumé written on the back of a cocktail napkin and even that's full of irrelevant fluff.

wood's main issue is that he's a huge liability on defense. his bball IQ is nonexistent too

there's no denying his talent on offense, but his awful defense is mainly why he's bounced around so much. he's pretty comparable to harrell in that he's a great spark off the bench, but is unplayable in big moments
