One word to fix this (based on an "unlikely to return next season" report I just saw)…. GIANNIS! Not sure how we'd do that so don't flame me, but it certainly shores up our middle when AD is out

giannis is under contract for two more years after this. windhorst is speculating that he won't sign an extension when he's eligible this summer.

IF he doesn't, then that would mean giannis may be available via trade the following year.

anyway, curious to see how the bucks approach the summer. there's not a whole lot they can do, really. i imagine middleton and holiday are worth more to them than they would fetch in trade, so they probably just need to re-sign lopez and hope the mini mle yields them someone useful.

i guess allen and portis are tradable, but tbh, both fit pretty well there. just a real headscratching first round performance.

so i guess they'll fire budenholzer.

Lillard to the Bucks, "problem" solved. At least C Bags would have some competition ;)

bucks have no picks to trade until 2029, and i can't see portland taking a holiday-centered deal without heavy draft compensation. i suppose you could get mil's 29 and route holiday to a third team--contender who might give up 2 1sts?

anyway, if that's lillard's price, i think several teams (including us) would meet or beat it.

    I wouldn't change a thing.
I might consider firing Mike, never thought he was that good.
But they have a system that fits all of them. Doesn't make sense to burn it all and start over. Giannis with Holiday, Middleton and a supporting cast of Portis, Lopez and two or three 3&D can get you another ring or 2.

They were just unlucky. Giannis got hurt in the first 10 minutes of the series and Miami capitalize. The Heat are a great team when locked in and Jimmy is just an animal. Of course, the Bucks should have won game 4 and 5, especially with the Heat without Herro, but sometimes you lost.
This team was the #1 seed in the NBA, have a roster that fits together and I don't think they should start over.

There are probably 30 teams in the league that only wish they had the Bucks "problems". Tinker around the edges of the roster and run it back.

you mean lakers fans will have a more level-headed perspective for a 1 seed that went out in 5 than for their own 7 seed that went out in 7?

    no way.

I wouldn't either, but they have to strike gold on the minimum market. Per Marks, that's their only means to add to the roster this summer (mid level unlikely due to repeater tax). They have 7 FAs and only a late 2nd round pick in this year's draft. The Crowder addition was a fail. So odds are they won't be better next year, but their core is good enough that if healthy they'll still be at or near the top of the conference.

Agree. Missed free throws did them in. Antetokoumpo being the chief culprit. Early panic mode with an early challenge flag. Did not have the poise to set up a defense on that inbound game tying score.

The Bucks were overrated all year. They had the best record at 58-24 but they were 5th in net rating at +3.6 for an expected win/loss of 50-32. There was this idea that they started slow but turned into a juggernaut midseason, but they were 8th in net rating after the all star break. I don’t like being the C Bags promoter here but they were never on the level of the C Bags in the East.

Middleton never looked great this season, Jrue is a very streaky offensive player and they have a bunch of regular season innings eater types like Allen, Ingles, Crowder and Matthews that are not playoff guys. Bud is the same stubborn coach he’s always been, he should definitely be gone IMO. Them losing is shocking in the moment, but this is the 5th year of this group contending (I know Jrue came in later). That’s usually the shelf life of a contender and this group has aged out.

middleton's health is kind of a huge deal, right? he never looked right to me. is he done as a #2 level player?

anyway, as others have said, there's not much to do, but i agree that they've probably aged out.

also, wasn't giannis playing hurt? he missed a few games in the series too right?

seems like a lot of people are completely forgetting about that
