I would hope we're not that incompetent. Trying to sell DJ on LA when he already plays here. Now THAT would be embarrassing.
Would not surprise me if we did... That leaves the basketball side of things. What is our direction? Where do we see ourselves in two to three years? What is his role on the team?
Here's how the DJ meeting should go. 1. Take down his FatHead Banner at Staples & let him see the Championship Banners behind it. 2. Make him watch the Sport Science episode with D'Angelo Russell 3. Drop $2OMil cash on the table 4. End Meeting
He would be stupid, and so would the Lakers. I may be a spoiled Laker fan having watched all their great centers 'cept Mikan in person but he's not a championship caliber center. I just don't see being desperate now to sign someone with some cred' just to appease us....
Sadly the outside of basketball pitch is the main thing they think they can sell a FA on (not working). Direction - none. 2-3 years - hopes and prayers and we'll try this again next year, hoping it goes better. Role - well, we have 3 ball dominant guards, you'll get the ball when it's not in their hands but yeah... Xs & Os - Scott excuses himself to the restroom
^^^ Many here, including myself actually felt that DJ was the best fit of all the Free Agent Bigs given our current roster.. -LMA didn't want to play C & is not a good defender to put next to Randle. -Love.. (see LMA) -Gasol was never coming -Monroe is solid, but plays no D either..
I said this even before the Aldridge debacle: I'd take Monroe. I don't see Jordan as a viable option, though I'd welcome him. I'm a bit surprised the lakers haven't moved on to secondary center targets. phx snapping up chandler threw me for a loop (and I'm guessing the lakers, too). this isn't exciting at all.
Sign Monta. Sign Harris. Trade Clarkson and Randle + Young/Kelly/& Sacre for Cousins. Sign McDaniels.
Like many have mentioned and I've been reading this thread all day, but I want to officially join the bandwagon of fans wanting us to sign Tobias Harris and Robin Lopez. That would be a good to maybe great offseason with players in positions we need help in.
No one wanted to go to Phoenix until they became a fringe playoff team the last couple of seasons. It's just a matter of putting a good product on the floor, and quite frankly we sucked the last two seasons and nobody wants that. Look at Philly; one of the historic franchises in the NBA as well but you don't see other FA's clamoring to go there because they know they'll just go lose and tank. While our young trio is promising they're still unproven. We just gotta put one quality season like the Suns did while Randle / Clarkson / Russell show this is a core you want to play with and the FA's will come and help us. My silver lining in all this: we won 21 games last season and yet FA's are still willing to talk to us. That's gotta account for something.
busiest first day of free agency ever. This is ridiculous. Even 3rd tier guys are getting snatched up. We're going to be stuck calling Laron Profit and Mike Penberthy.
I am not for calling Jordan a max player but sometimes you need guys to do specific things - dennis rodman This laker team lacks a defensive anchor. I say pay him or trade Randle for cousins. Time to make a move mitch. Don't get me wrong - love Randle but this is it for these lakers - clarkson and Randle will never have higher trade value with so little risk. They might become the player cousins is.. Or we will regret holding after whiffing this year and watch this play out again next year without a draft pick
Asik 5/60 million back to New Orleans?? Man New Orleans is just shelling out cash... Too bad. That's going to drive up the price for Robin Lopez too.
Oh come on now... Vujacic and Mbenga. Seriously, while everyone is jockeying for the top tier players...other teams are/were maneuvering for the solid, complementary ones. I am not sure if Laker brass even has outlined a contingency plan or made overtures for them. Maybe they did but surely not mentioned.
