funny, I always thought of Green as a guy who could get you 15 pretty easy but he never really did that ever. Guess in his prime he was 11-12 per game.but that went down as he got older. Hard to believe he actually spent as many years playing for other teams, after playing for the Lakers, as he did playing for us.
Rambis and Green were two straight forward PF's - they didn't guard wings from what I recall. This is what made Worthy special and underrated as he was a big dude who had the ability to guard 1-3. Having Scott and of course Cooper helped significantly as well. Vando seems more like an Odom type in terms of his agility who can move between wings. Igoudala comes to mind as well.
still think early career rodman is a good comparison. rodman didn't start playing heavy minutes until year 2, when he was 26(!) years old. for those first three years, he averaged about 10 and 10, and his per 36 numbers are really similar to vando's from the last three years (when he started getting minutes). rodman's advanced numbers were better in the same time frame, but again, he was substantially older. i'm not saying he'll be rodman, but his style of play and the way he impacts the game is like that. he's not as strong as rodman was (and won't be), but he's a much more skilled offensive player in terms of ballhandling especially.
During the Mavs game a friend of mine jokingly called AD and Vanderbilt "twin towers". We laughed but theres some sense to it. He isn't taller than 6'9 but his wingspan + work rate make it seem like he's a big, imo.
i'd use him to guard 1-4 and really, half the centers in the league, too--especially the backups, who are often smaller.
Against GSW, in 24 mins: 10/14/4 with a steal and a +25. He's clearly the kinda guy who has all kinds of effect on the game that doesn't show up on the stat sheet. And he's the sort of player Ham thinks needs to be used, almost surgically, in certain match-ups. I'm not sure that's the best way to think of him. Perhaps Ham is thinking he needs more scorers in the game, which would explain why, of all the starters, Vandy only got 24 mins. It's not like he gets in foul trouble quickly. I'd like to see him get more mins, but hey: what do I know? Is it too much to think he could develop his spot-up 3 in the off season? At this point I'd rather he pass that one up.
Yes it is. He’s been working hard at it for 3-4 seasons and has improved quite a bit. He would never take a 3 at all, now he is at about 1-1.5 attempts a game at about 33%. I think in another 2-3 years he could be at 32-35% on 3-4 attempts.
Form doesn't look half bad: kind in a weird place where it's a swish or the opposite close to an air ball. He's not been a good FT shooter either so he's got a lot of work to do still.
Rebounded like a mad man and the offense wasn't as scary as it can be some games. Good bounce back game from him. Wonder if the minutes were kept down because of the elbow injury?
Guys, Vanderbilt is not a heavy minutes player. He's a high-energy guy who needs to get rest on a regular basis. The most he's ever played in a season was 25mpg.
It cannot be overstated how much this guy impacts the game when he’s out there. It’s like our whole team’s IQ goes up 15 points. Vando Calrissian.
I'm beating the drum on this, but we MUST have Caruso back. Him and Vando with LeBron, AD and Reaves is a killer elite defensive team. You still have LeBron/AD on offense and 3 guys who can handle the ball. With the amount of stops this team would have, spacing wouldn't be an issue, it's just too good on defense
The Lakers have the best D in the league since acquiring Jarred Vanderbilt. H-Town stand up! https://www.nba.com/stats/teams/advanced?LastNGames=10&dir=A&sort=DEF_RATING
For the love of all that is holy, please fix the thread title to be Vandalorian. That is with an a after d. P.S. Yes, I have issues...
7 minutes to start the first REST 7 minutes before halftime REST during halftime 7 minutes to start the third REST 7 minutes to close the game Mix and match as the game goes, but this is the idea. 28 minutes total. Of course, Bacon is brain-dead, so...
