really not sure what the clips are thinking bringing russ in when they just kicked wall to the curb for being crap. not to mention they've had mann at PG and he's looked pretty good. why bring in a guy who is unplayable in the clutch and especially in playoff games?

only way this doesn't end in disaster is if russ accepts a role as a facilitator considering the clippers actually have shooters. but i highly doubt that considering the guy is delusional and still thinks he can play at an MVP level. clips fans should enjoy the bricks and passes into the crowd

russ is probably going to do relatively well with literally zero pressure/expectations at this point

I actually think he’s going to a situation that suits him better.

I could see him doing well as a backup PG for 10 minutes a half. They needed someone to push the pace and they have enough shooting to compensate for him.

Problems will occur if they start playing him in the 4th: the unforced TO's, dumb shots will return as they always do. But as a buyout pickup and Lue's willingness to experiment probably the only team in the league who could max his abilities and minimize his weaknesses enough to make him viable

WHy is this thread not going off?

Russ to the Clippers is an astonishingly horrible move for them - and it's the first time I have to seriously question their front office.

I think this move tanks any chance they had of winning it all this year...

it suits him better in that there's better spacing on the clips and they have guys who can knock down the 3 he can kick the ball out to

but that's about it. he's still gonna brick most of his shots and make his usual low IQ plays

Guys - Russ is not going to be a 10 minute a half guy...they're looking at him as a vital piece of their rotation and therein lies the problem and the conundrum that is Russell Westbrook. It's the OPPORTUNITY COST that is the problem.

Whose minutes is he taking away? EG? Bones? Mann? Also, will he make them play smaller lineups because of his lack of shooting ability? Does that mean less Zu and Plumlee? Also, will Lue want to play Russ, EG and Bones together? Does that mean more 3-guard lineups? Less of Batum/Covington? Also will Russ start? Who is he kicking out of the starting lineup? Morris or Mann? Or ZU?

This is the problem with signing Russ to an already loaded team that didn't really need him, especially after picking up EG.

Guess they really value PG's GM decisions over there and they can't watch Laker games because they're blacked out on league pass. That's the only explanation here.

He'll take Bones's minutes, which is probably fine because Bones really isn't that good at this point of his career. It sounds like Russ is going to start for them:

    Russ / Powell
    George / Gordon
    Leonard / Mann
    Morris / Batum / Covington
    Zubac / Plumlee

I bet Russ starts but is the first sub out, and then comes back in for a few minutes with the bench. Not how I'd do it.

everybody's talking about offense, but the clips offense--despite tyronn christ and having PG and kawhi a zillion shooters--has been pretty meh to bad (21st in the nba). their d has been pretty solid (10th). i felt like russ hurt as much on defense as he did on offense. the clips have the personnel to overcome his offensive issues, but can they deal with his off-ball lapses?

Another chance for Russ to blame it all on Lakers coaches, Vogel and Ham, IF he suddenly gets a hint of a clue or care about off ball defense, putting plugs in mouth, ears and nose to stop brain farts, and does a 180 turn around on the bad shot/bad turnover momentum killing plays. Those he could actually control, but then why not here? This says nothing about the shooting and too much mustard/out of control play that comes included with the Russ being Russ experience. What's the over under on how many games, if any, they let him close in crunch time?

Hooo boy they're going to START Russell Westbrook?!

Clippers fans are in disbelief right now. Everybody got their pitch forks out.

Also I spoke about it above but I forgot the Clippers also have NORMAN POWELL.

So they got Powell, EG, Bones, Mann and now Russ....how are they going to distribute minutes?

They're probably going to squeeze out Batum/Cov if they wanna play all these guards..which means 3-guard lineups are coming back OR it means they're going to have to bench one of their bigs and go 5 out with Kawhi or Morris at center...recipe for disaster once again.

Russ just f***s up their rotations and likely their chemistry...and I'm here for it lol

i'll be curious to see how it works. they added three net negative defenders in gordon, hyland, and russ. can all their wing defense over come that?

A month ago I would have said yes because they play a lot of 5-out with Batum or Covington at the 5 and switching onto bigger guys is probably the one thing Russ still does pretty well defensively. Then they traded for Plumlee. It seems like the Clips want to play a little bigger, in which case yeah I think Russ is a bad defensive fit.

Actually - EG looked to play that part very well against Booker last week. I think he hasn't been trying in Houston last fe wyears...and he flashed some great on-ball defense and active hands on booker.

Bones will be the odd man out likely...which will be a mistake because he's a great shooter and he fits the team better.

You might as well have kept Reggie Jackson if your plan was to go and get Russ.

Owners can ask for trade kickers from the players. It certainly won’t stop all trade requests from happening but if players can get them in their contracts under certain conditions, owners should be able to also. Maybe expand the criteria for who is eligible.
