well according to this source, the meeting with aldridge went "very well" http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports....ith-lamarcus-aldridge-which-went-really-well/
Throw everything and the books at Deandre. Max contract. He'll play a major role as one of the seniors on the team. He'll have plenty of plays run for him with Kobe, Russell, and JC dishing the ball. Play for a franchise that can actually get out of the second round.
I'm mostly with you on that. I'm practical enough to know we weren't truly competitive with Aldridge on the roster, but I just don't think it bodes well for the FO that they can't close any of these meetings. There's still time. I think we need to start putting in calls to Harris and try to get this youth movement kicking.
when they say the meeting went 'really well', its like when your buddy shows you a pic of his new gf and she's not that pretty and you say 'she looks like a really nice person'
Sounds like an impressive presentation but it is not always easy with a guy that may have had his mind made up ahead. it ain't over till it is over.
Let's get Monroe, a person we have discussed and argued for and against this past God forsaken season. He is gettable let's screw NYK and Phil again win win no matter what.
Brian Windhorst ✔ @WindhorstESPN Details on Tiago Splitter deal & how it affects Spurs pursuit of LaMarcus Aldridge & Hawks attempts to sign Millsap: http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/13181032/san-antonio-spurs-trade-tiago-splitter-atlanta-hawks…
Monroe makes the team a lot better. I'd love it. His max starts at 16.75 so it's possible to get him and then some.
Last year their backup plan was to sign guys to 1 year deals. This year there's no point in doing that since we have money to spend the next 2 years. I'm trying to trust the FO has a real plan if they don't get one of the elite bigs. Some guys have moved faster than expected but we're getting to the point where we wait for that first BIG domino to fall. I expect FA to slow down until guys like Aldridge and Jordan make commitments.
Yeah it is disappointing, but likely a blessing in disguise. We just need time. The roster we have right now is not going to attract top flight talent (at least, in my opinion). If LMA is serious about basketball and/or winning he would sign with SA. Props to the Spurs for building a culture of winning and getting everyone to buy in. We are headed in the right direction.. we just need to continue to be patient. I just hope that, at the end of the day, we rebuild the right way rather than look for a shortcut. There are too many stacked teams right now for us to contend with. On another note... I am glad to see that this community has continued to grow--props to crew!
I know I'm in the minority, but I just don't have the same fascination with LMA as others here do. I'd be totally happy with a Love/Biyombo combo instead.
We definitely need to rethink our approach. Not sure what is going wrong but we need to reevaluate it completely.
I agree about patience but man... I'm sick of missing the playoffs and winning 20 games. We're on a road now where we aren't much better than that this season either. A good FA would do wonders for morale. I think the best we can do is go young. Older guys are focused on competing asap. Younger guys can more readily embrace legacy.
Is it about our approach or the talent we have on the roster? Personally, I think it is the latter. When we develop our talent, then we will attract players etc.
I don't think everyone is necessarily mad that we missed out on LMA, but with other talents like Carrol and Green gone accompanied with Aldridge coming away not impressed with our FO, it is just seeming like Deja Vu again.
