or it means that we are (wisely) planning to operate over the cap, as i've been hoping the whole time?

I agree. Another thing, since we traded for a wing that we plan to sign to an extension, the Bojan trade might be less likely now. There is probably a greater chance that we trade for a guard.

Right, that’s what I was getting at too. This should eliminate the “under the cap” path.

Which at first made me think “trade Russ”… but if there is truth to the idea that Russ and Rui have good chemistry together, I wonder if this opens up the door to retaining Russ on a cheaper team-friendly deal?

I know that’s been a mostly unpopular idea (I think you may have been one of the only champions for this idea lol), but if we can flip Bev and a pick to fill another need, I could actually see keeping Russ as a wise usage of our assets.

ready for an even MORE unpopular idea: we could retain both russ and bev at discounted rates compared to current salary. *dodges tomatoes*

I actually do think this increases the chance of us bringing back Russ if we don’t find a deal.

a Russ team-friendly deal would be at least 20M per season. Bev at least 8/10M. Both these guys are already washed and both will become even worse as they lose more athleticism.

Those are not the guys we need to resign. If we are to resign anyone it should be Schroder, Bryant and Lonnie, and Reaves of course.

i don't think there's a russ deal to be had, tbh. ownership seems concerned about the tax, and any positive russ trade involves taking on a bunch of salary long-term, imo. i think once the hield/turner ship sailed, plan A was keeping russ, maybe even past this summer.

It’s definitely a possibility. I still wonder if Russ would want to return but he and Ham do seem to have clicked.

We will know for sure soon enough.

Knicks drug their feet too long.

I still think he gets moved though.

russ: 3 years/50 million, only 5 million of the last year guaranteed.
bev: 3 years/25 million, only 5 million of the last year guaranteed.

    lebron 47
    AD 41
    russ 17
    rui 17
    bev 8
    reaves 8
    christie 2
    gabriel 2

schroder/bryant split the MLE OR one takes most of it short term OR we just retain walker on his raise.

another thought is that bev can be S&T'd with our first for another impact player.

again, still lots of dominos to fall, but over the cap is the right plan, imo.

This was an EXCELLENT move by the Lakers. Hats off to Rob for pulling a trade I'm fairly sure NOBODY saw coming, and keeping all of our coveted first round picks and unloading a player that was basically deadweight / 11th guy on our team. Rui has a good chance of being a starter here, or at the very least a very important 5th/6th guy for us off the bench. He's a big wing that can hit corner 3's, and I'm not too sure about his defense, but I like him more than Nunn in basically every single way.

He was the 9th pick in the 2019 draft, so I'd say we just refilled our talent cupboard and yes, I HOPE we are considering re-signing him this summer because we need to have guys like this moving forward in the $13-17M range that we develop and we stop letting guys like this just WALK.
