Yes so would you and the rest of the village. We aren't stupid either. But you aren't getting back anything of value for Russ for whatever reason, in fact reports say you're paying a first round pick for someone else to take him before you start sending first round picks to get something valuable back. (Anti Lakers sentiment at play here)

On top of that, advanced stats have a hard time capturing a players impact on those around them. Our bench has really benefitted from Russ running it. From a production point of view averaging 23/8/8 over the last 10 games or so is incredibly valuable regardless of what the advanced stats say.

Been saying this for a while. We can’t trade for a bunch of players and expect them to get the offensive/defensive systems and integrate them to know their teammates easily.

IMO we can acquire maybe 2 players that get major minutes max and reliably integrate them without too much problem.

"advanced" stats can be tricky, too, because they can reflect whether you play opposite bad or good players and just generally how well you fit in a team/scheme.

i do think they have more value than counting stats, though, if only because they attempt to capture team success when you're on the floor.

anyway, my stance hasn't changed. i need to see something better than what i've seen to start throwing picks out. i think we dangle bev/nunn/whatever until the deadline and either take what comes or pack it in and reap the lux tax benefits. i'll be disappointed, but i'll understand. gotta live to fight another day.

edit: and i, too, have been saying for weeks that anyone we add needs to acclimate, and that can take a while. hell, these guys had training camp, and it took nearly half a season to figure out how to do stuff. injuries played heavily into that, but the 20 game thing is sorta real. even a clear upgrade in trade is going to result in on-court hiccups. so the rush to get something done this week doesn't make any sense to me. it's not like the dude is going to show up tomorrow and win six games for us.

New acquisitions integrate faster later in the season like the trade deadline or post allstar game when teams have already found their identities. Much easier to assimilate in an environment that is already established and sure about itself, then you're just finding your way, not doing it at the same time as everyone else. Obviously, there are exceptions and this assumes the player picks up things quickly and isn't too one-sided (i.e. can't play D and that's what's needed of them).

Non-related topic, with all this talk about maybe going after OG with the picks, is anyone concerned about his playing 48 games last season and 43 the season before?:

    We have a “defensive system?”
This team after the first three weeks or so has taken zero pride on the defensive side of the ball.

THIS is a major reason why this team is bad. The rest of the players available need to take some pride in stopping the other team from scoring.

In Game Time it was like, imagine if we had a shooter like Huerter. Guess what? We could. His name is Bojan Bogdanovich.

we’ve been led to believe there will be a trade, there was never a plan to trade after the off-season PB trade.

The demand for multiple picks for non-Allstars is too high right now.

Derrick White was traded to Boston for 1 FRP and 1 pick swap, which to me is reasonable. He is an ascending 2-way player that’s under contract at a reasonable rate for multiple years.

Jerami Grant was traded to Portland for 1 FRP and 2 2nd rounders. To me, this is a reasonable price.

During the off-season, I would have been fine if we did a trade with Utah for a package of Bogdanovic/Conley in exchange for Westbrook and 1 FRP.

Bogdanovic ends up being traded for Olynyk straight up, no picks involved. This was a reasonably fair trade.

Suddenly, Bogdanovic is fetching a 1st rounder, the Spurs want 2 FRP for Jakob Poetl, and OG Anunoby would take 3 FRP.

all this. it's not like nba trade market inflation is a real thing. simply don't pay. once teams get burned for a cycle, this will be over.

The acclimation thing is definitely true, we're seeing in real time what three years of guys being in and out of the lineup has done to the Clippers. They're a mess that has no clue how to play together. I don't have any hopes for this season but I still want to make trades now to get some better pieces around LeBron/AD and then have another offseason to further plug holes going into next season. I've seen enough from LeBron to now expect that he will still be a great player next season, so we'll be hoping to get lucky with AD's health for another year.
