I've had this feeling for awhile now, that if we don't think that we can keep Lonnie, he's more likely to get moved than Nunn. Bev and Nunn can still be packaged or Bev and Walker. Nunn and a 2nd for Reddish, and Bev and Walker for Bogdanovic. That would please a lot of folks.

The Mavs frankly got unlucky with how good Luka was right away, they tanked the one season for Luka but were never able to get that second piece. The one other time they were in the lottery that got Dennis Smith Jr. lol. I'm not really sure what they do now, it sounds like Luka is starting to get frustrated.

I'd never thought about trading Lonnie but this does make some sense. I like Lonnie, he's been really fun to watch, but we probably can't/won't keep him beyond this season. He'll want more than the MLE and I'm not sure I want to give him more than that if we're only working with the $30 million in cap space. He started off super hot from 3 but was cooling off before he got hurt, he's at 38% for the year right now but I bet that ends up around 35%. He started off defending better than he ever had as well but that's fallen off too.

i think he was in a good spot to start, but we've been better without him. not sure it's his fault, though.

iow, i could go either way. it's just something i thought about. as you said, retaining him might be tricky. my preference would be to keep him using his (limited) bird rights on a two-year deal with a player option on his 2nd year. i wouldn't want to commit much more. so if he HAS to be involved to make a deal, i'm ok. it's just not the same as nunn, who really hasn't brought much and doesn't have a lot of room to grow as a player, imo. lonnie can still get better (he's three years younger and came in really raw).

This knee issue that he's dealing with, probably has something to do with that.

yeah, a few things happened. he got nicked up with ankles on a couple occasions, iirc. then we moved schroder to the starting unit, which cut into his role there and made him too much of a spectator. also shifted him down a spot defensively a lot, i think.

i think lonnie is good and is going to get better.

Tim McMahon just launched a report today that Luka "strongly indicated" he wanted moves on the Mavs' roster.

Cuban quickly dismissed it and McMahon just tweeted Cuban denying like it's nothing.

This to say that these reports mean NOTHING. Reporters don't give a crap. I think we are at the peak of the worst phase of news reporting. We have media channels and these "insiders" trying to keep their job by creating stuff to keep people entertained and connected combined with executives, agents or even players (I won't even say it) planting news that they want out for some personal benefit. So we shouldn't really take any conclusion from anything that isn't an actual move or someone publicly saying stuff.

Wouldn't have thought AC would be the one untouchable on the Bulls.

We could move Nunn and a second or two for Reddish and Bev Jones and JTA plus first for Bogdanovic. That would help our wing situation for the foreseeable future. Then you could still make a trade with Russ later on.

Well, I guess the reports about the FO being divided regarding the Heild/Turner deal are all false then?

Does anyone else think making too many trades and bringing in too many players basically punts the season for us?

Mid season trades usually don’t have a positive impact because it takes so long to get up to speed with your team mates, learn the defensive principles and the offensive playbook.

We’ve just started gelling and if we go and trade Westbrook for 3 players as well as Bev, Nunn and Jones for 2 others. We’re gonna have to integrate 5 rotation players. I mean at that point it’s a wrap for this season.

I’d much rather trade for a single starting quality SF piece. Whether that’s Bogdanovic or OG or something else than a whole new rotation.

Stay patient. As we’ve discussed before unless you’re going to get something valuable back that propels you into contender status, you don’t blow your only trade-able picks this decade on poor decisions.

(You especially don’t blow them trying to get rid of Russ who is an expiring).

If I could, I’d try to package Bev and Nunn for an impact player. I know I’ve said 2 firsts for OG but that’s also a big move on our end. It means we’re rolling with AD and OG after Lebron leaves with little to no way to improve. That probably makes us a top 6 seed but not a contender. We would need a first or second round pick to develop into a star to compete.

It’s what kind of turns me off Bogdanovic, a first for someone who is gone in 2-3 years? OG is at least a great defender and young enough to make it to the end of the decade as a valuable piece.

It’s a hard situation trying to maximise the present while not blowing up the future.

Asking price for OG is three unprotected firsts and that's only for Toronto to even consider the move. So that's out as most figured. Also I don't see us moving Lonnie who is a Klutch client. He's on a good salary, could get a small boost next year and a more defined role in the future. If you move Beverly now there is more room for Walker to succeed now, too.

Looks like the Lakers may indeed be trying to get both Reddish and Bogdanovich as I mentioned. If you move Nunn and seconds for Cam, you still have Beverly, Jones and JTA you can trade for Bojan with the first. https://lakersnation.com/nba-rumors...lakers-bucks-mavericks-interested/2023/01/18/

"But the Knicks’ asking price has dwindled down to just two second-round picks, despite trading away a first-rounder to land him. At that price, most teams hoping to contend for a championship would easily take a flier on a player like Reddish and hope the new situation gives him a refreshed mindset.

At this point, it would be surprising to see the Feb. 9 deadline come and go without a Reddish deal. For months, all indications have pointed towards the Lakers being his eventual landing spot, but crazier things have happened when the trade deadline nears.

Lakers among many teams reportedly looking to acquire Bojan Bogdanovic
Another popular name within Lakers trade circles is Detroit Pistons forward Bojan Bogdanovic. Rumors linking Bogdanovic to L.A. date back to his time with the Utah Jazz, and have only strengthened with the Pistons reportedly being willing to move him for the right price."

Again, that leaves us still with a first and Russ' contract if we want to make a move later. Or just keep the pick!

Whoa....pump the brakes on this Cam kid. I had no idea Reddish has been a DNP since 12-2-22. Thibs ain't no dummy. And word is he's been riding the pine in favor of Quentin Grimes, whose D coach prefers. We're talking a 6'4" 210lb guy over a 6'8" 220lbs guy with supposed incredible athletic upside. I mean, he sounds like Devean George all over again.

No way in hell I would give up Walker for him with how he's played for us and even Nunn is showing signs of his former self slowly but surely and earning spot minutes.

I know we are desperate for a large wing with only Brown (who is more of a medium-sized wing) who hasn't been a great defender and LBJ sliding back to the 3 with AD's return. Can we continue having our bigs (AD & TB) guard the larger wings out there? Bogdanović defensive rating stinks and he ain't getting any younger, dead-eye shooting from 3 aside.

Is Carmelo that bad? I mean he averaged nearly a steal and a block for us last season and the last 3 seasons has been hot from 3, grabs a few boards still and is a big body inside if not fast laterally (at all).

No to Walker, but sure Nunn and a couple seconds? I say yes. Nunn sucks and he's our fourth small combo/point guard who can't shoot. Not sure we can keep Brown next year so Reddish would be a nice project for a bench SF.

Everyone is posturing at the moment. OG isn’t worth 3 first round picks, but if someone pony’s them up - sure. I think we could get it done for an unprotected, a top 5 protected and a pick swap.

Is that 3 year pick hit worthwhile though? We do get one of the best perimeter defenders.

    Schroeder / Russ
    Reaves / Walker / Christie
    OG / Brown / JTA
    Lebron / Gabriel
    AD / Bryant

    That’s a solid rotation.

OG isn't on the table. And certainly not for what we have. Again, the word on the street is that they are buyers not sellers this year and will be going after a center - Ayton or Turner.
