Trading Bev Nunn and a first for Bogdanovic does not meet my criteria for a drastic overpay. Bogs is on a decent contract for his play and he’d be a starting 40% 3 point shooter for us that no one could leave open. No he’s not an ideal 3 and D wing but those don’t seem to exist for us to get. At least he’s a starting level complementary player with great offensive skills who can lighten the load for Lebron and company and give us a shot to compete with the top teams.

I don't understand this crazyness around Bojan.
He went to Detroit for nothing, which means no team offered anything relevant, much less a FRP to Utah.
He's not a defender. He's a very good player and his shooting would help our offense for sure, but he's not worth a draft pick 5 years from now when our timeline ends at 2025 and no one knows what will it be after.
Not only there's a fair chance it is a lottery pick, with the Stepien Rule it has all this consequences:
    - we are left with only 1 pick to trade until 2024 and 2 picks to trade until 2026
    - we have barely any cap space available until 2025 with 2 max
    - our 2 max are untradable, so which pieces do we have to trade until 2025? A couple 10M guys and 1 FRP? What does that get us?

Plus, Bojan is 33, his trade value is just going to decrease. If he comes and is good, we don't want to trade him. Even if we want, who wants a good old guy? Other contenders right? Are other contenders giving us good players in return? When did that happen? Just look at how Phoenix is unable to find a good trade for Crowder.
If he's bad, who wants him? Is a bad team going to send picks or good players for a vet that brings them nowhere?

It's a GM duty to consider all this and I'm pretty happy that we have been cautious in our next move. The world doesn't end this season. Plus, until we trade Russ and have a good understand of our payroll scenario, we can't make any big moves that impact our ability to run the franchise throughout this decade

If they throw in Siakam with FVV we might throw in those picks

Because he’s a 41% three point shooter, 48% overall and 88% free throw shooter. He’s an elite shooter to play next to Lebron, AD and even Russ. He’s about as easy an offensive fit as we are going to get. And for one first rounder plus the corpses of Pat Bev and Nunn that’s not an exorbitant ask.

I don’t want to wait until we figure out what trade is available for Russ at the deadline. We need help right now with AD Reaves and Walker out. Also I would rather use a pick and get rid of the deadweight on our roster to compete and not waste this season. I don’t want the FO to have some excuse to use both picks in a Russ deal to “chase a superstar.” I don’t believe one is magically becoming available for a Russ deal. I’d rather keep one pick down the line in case and use one now to get a starting level complementary player.

And by the way this is not some off the wall idea. It came from the FO themselves. They pushed this narrative of doing a smaller deal with one pick and hanging on to the other in case something comes up for Russ at the deadline. I’m just wanting them to follow through so we can win more games. If you have to rely on Lebron scoring 40 plus against crap teams we aren’t getting to the playoffs. They need to get him help to survive this patch missing 3 of our best players.

    Agreed.

Bojan is good player in a position of need with a skillset we need. We will seewhat happens but he would definitely help our team now and moving forward.

Also, Ainge getting outsmarted doesn't bring down his value.

A first isn't an overpay for him especially if the goal is to use the first to try and trade for a star later on. The star market has been warped with the Gobert trade so I'm not even sure three picks gets the guys people have been named.

And if I'm being all the way honest, I think I'd prefer Bojan to Beal and some of the other names tossed out there at this point. Especially if we still have one of our picks.

can we match those salaries? if yes I'd offer the 2 picks for those two guys absolutely and that trade would turn us into contenders.

Again, this is why Detroit’s ask is a FRP. He has other suitors besides us for good reason. He’s one of the best shooters in the league and he’s on a decent contract. All things equal though our FRP pick is better than those other teams. And Nunn and Bev only help their tank and expire. Not sure we can get a better player than him for the price. And he’d be great. I’m not greedy, I just want help now and don’t see it as an overpay at all. You aren’t getting guys like OG or Siakam for one pick. Probably not even two given the Gobert situation as Elgin mentioned. Also I read that NY has come down in their ask for Reddish to two 2nd rounders. I’d do both and we’d be set at wing. That would give us more leeway to get a PG and a big possibly with a Russ deadline trade.

Amico says we're one of the teams interested in Gordon (not the first time he's been linked to us this season)

We don't seem to have a problem scoring, even without "shooters".

Ok, based on @JSM info posted above the following teams have made their interest in Bogdanovic known:

    Toronto / New Orleans / Milwaukee / Cleveland / Dallas / Lakers

Detroit has also made their asking price known: one unprotected first.

So, why hasn't he been traded yet? None of those six interested teams has been willing to pony up an unprotected 1st. It's not just Rob that is balking at the asking price. Several of those teams have sharp GMs. The market sets the true value. My guess would be all of those teams have offered at least a 2nd, and probably more than one has offered a lottery protected 1st. But all six seem willing to let Detroit stew in their juices for a while longer expecting the asking price to adjust.

Fair enough, and you are absolutely right that the market sets the value not the asking team, TIME. 100%. We know that we offered a first already but with protections. None of those other teams are in the position that we are though. Cleveland, New Orleans, and Mil have tons of talent and are all top tier with no urgency to upgrade. Toronto is trying to figure out what they are doing - tanking or trying to make the playoffs. Dallas is most like us - a little weak on talent but with nowhere close to the need we have for a shooter. And they are in the top 5 in the West anyway with what they already have. Last I checked we were in 13th with a tough schedule, a guard heavy roster and no AD, Reaves or Walker for the time being. We actually need this guy most. And our pick is the best one to get the job done. If we get Bogs I don't see that as an overpay at all. He's a perfect fit and we certainly get addition by subtraction with two useless guards going out for a legit starting small forward.

Yeah, I would love to add Bojan. He weakens us on D, but this team isn't playing any D anyway. We are in a win 140-138 mode. Bojan would make us much better offensively and would be a perfect spacer for LeBron and AD. I just don't want to send out a 1st for him unless it is lotto protected.

Agreed, and sure I would prefer not an unprotected first but right now that’s not getting it done. We already tried that. So if an unprotected gets him I would pull the trigger. I’m not as attached to the pick as I am interested in improving the team this year and next which is what Bogs would do.

yeah, i've been skeptical of adding one-dimensional shooters since the hield rumors started. btw, i joked about burks's stated value in trade as ridiculous, but tbh, he's probably having a better year than bogdanovic, all things considered. he's shooting 45% from three, and his defense is substantially better than bojan's.

edit: lol shams repeating spurs talking points.

double lol at houston continuing to think they're getting something for gordon.

For some reason I'm not able to copy paste the article at the moment, but this certainly stands out. "The most notable is the team’s lack of 3-point shooting. The Lakers rank dead last in 3-pointers made per game and 27th in 3-point percentage."

i don't like the idea of doubling down on outscoring people when you employ AD. it's a waste, imo. we talk about getting lebron help all the time. well, get AD some help on defense, dammit.

You'd rather keep the corpse of Pat Bev and Nunn than have a floor spacer? You mentioned many times there were no three and D wings available in the summer nor do I see one now for our current assets.

You have to outscore the opponent in every game and we are probably three weeks out from even seeing AD at this point. We are going to lose a lot of winnable games in the meantime if we don't add some help soon. In most of our recent wins Lebron has had to score 35 plus. It's not really sustainable.
