I can. His talent isn’t enough to overcome his diminutive size. It’s not like he’s an exceptional shooter or passer. I hope he improves and makes me eat crow.

Meh. More rumors probably put out there by our FO to fool some that they are planning on something. By their actions, the only plan I believe is the one in which they preserve their precious cap space. This allows them to sit back and do nothing. Seems to me they have zero interest in improving unless it’s a big swing.

Not to squabble over cents but it's 2 million, on vet mins 2 years and above the actual cap hit is always based on 2nd-year minimums (2 million is next year's) the rest (774k for 8th year man like Jones) is reimbursed by the NBA and doesn't count against the cap.

These clickbait whores. No offense ADKOBE .... directed at Mannix with this nothing burger of pulled from his butt speculation.

"Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated feels the team may be trying to get LeBron James on board with riding out this season with its current roster and attempting to make a home run trade for Bradley Beal or Damian Lillard this summer."

“Internally, I’m sure the Lakers are selling James on an offseason when Bradley Beal or Damian Lillard becomes available, and L.A. swoops in with its picks to acquire them,” Mannix said. “But that’s more fantasy than reality.”

    Yeah your's jack***.

I'm fine with no Beal and honestly, Lilliard is gonna be 36 and making over 63 million on his deal.

    :Jeanie Srsly:

What's amazing about this is neither of them "becomes available" they have to demand a trade and demand it to be the Lakers and we have nothing we are willing to trade then to match money. This guy's on crack.

I think you missed my last line of that post. I don’t want any part of either of them. I’ve stated over and over again here that I’m not down with the three “star” approach. I would much rather root for a well built, well balanced team that has continuity year after year.
Besides, even if I did want him, Lillard is retiring a Blazer.
We really need a sarcasm font.

LT beat me to it, but this is getting annoying. this is just a writer's speculation, labeled as such, and repackaged as "insight" into our process. it's b*******.

edit: oh wait, mannix is the boston shill, right? the dude that swore AD was going there and never here, right?

yeah, the difference between his actual salary and the cap hold we'd have to have for his roster spot is like a million or a little less was my point. it's just such a non-issue.

Totally agree with you about Mannix and frankly, SI in general. I have blocked them from my phone and on FB. After the Lakers were looking to trade Lebron for Reddish article. They have their heads where the sun don't shine!!

Incomplete roster spots have a cap hit of roughly a million per spot up to the minimum of 12. I believe Jones is on 2.6m next year. So the difference is 1.6m and it isn’t much, but it’s the equivalent of being able to give someone like Thomas Bryant 5m more over a 3 year period. It’s not inconsequential for TB.

Bingo. He also had a fantastic podcast episode saying a lot of the same stuff not too long ago, but I didn’t post it here because it was hosted by the Devil himself, er, I mean Anthony Irwin.

cap holds are rookie minimum, right? that's 1 mil.

anyway, if this is what we want to raise pitchforks over, just glue them to your hands, i guess.

    he's not at all wrong.

he also isn't saying anything that our management doesn't already know.

can't believe how much mileage these bloggers are getting out of spinning their own speculation into facts.
