Honestly, I would not be surprised. When you think about it, the 2023 free agent class is underwhelming. What an awful time to have cap space. We would be better off just adding Haywards's salary for one season, along with some assets. Even though Hayward is a big wing, I'm not sure if we should view him as an asset coming back, per say. He is too injury prone and unreliable at this point. I would view him as a short term contract that we absorb, in exchange for some assets. Those assets being Rozier and/or other players (like Washington)/ picks. Any production we get out of Hayward, I would call a bonus.

yeah, anything he brought on the court would be a bonus. i just think the front office isn't in the business of being a dumping ground, even if that's the best way to extract value from russ.

what I'm saying is that if we did Rozier + Hayward, we'd not only save our 2 picks, but also we would be much better than with Westbrook in terms of fit, and might even get some assets for helping Charlotte tank.

they are having a down year but are both close to 40% career 3pt shooters

I will take that over spending our picks on underwhelming players or another fading star.

I agree. There is probably a much greater chance Charlotte agrees than Toronto though.

I also would take it over spending our picks on underwhelming players- I doubt you would get anyone to disagree with that. But that isn't a reason to make a less foolish trade.

Essentially we would not only have ZERO cap space next season but also in the three other seasons we are paying Rozier. It would have to be significant assets for me to make that deal, as I doubt you could find a handful of worse contracts in the NBA right now (although Beal's sudden drop would be one- and many on her are wanting us to go after him).

Russell Westbrook, as bad as he has been and as awful a fit as he is on this team- is not nearly as bad an asset as those two currently are because of his contract expiring; even less so when you are talking about 3-4 teams not at the salary cap floor presently.

One is a career 37% shooter and the other a smidgen below that btw- that is not close to 40%. Hell, Patrick Beverley is a 37.5% career shooter from distance, better than each of them.

The time to have considered this type of trade was before the season began not when Westbrook's contract is almost off the books entirely and we have no real idea when AD is going to be back.

I just realized Fred VanVleet is a free agent this off-season.

If we go the no trade at all this season and preserve the cap space route, it would be a win if we can sign VanVleet and either Vucevic or Myles Turner with our cap space, and use our mid level on Harrison Barnes.

I honestly would prefer that than to try to chase stars and try to sign James Harden or Kyrie

We don't have the cap room to sign both of them.

this is disingenuous. beverley's never had a guy running at him nor created a three on his own. completely different circumstances. nobody leaves rozier or hayward open, which has positive consequences for your offense, as we found out when they came to our house and put up 134 points.

It is not disingenuous, it is factual.

Nowhere did I imply that Beverley created his shot on his own or that teams don't defend Rozier and Hayward, who are much more volume shooters from outside than PatBev. That fact alone is why defenders are more inclined to guard them....That however does not change the FACT that:

    1) Beverley has a better 3 pt career shooting percentage than either of them
    2) 37 and 36.9% is not close to 40% by any stretch of the imagination (both are closer to 35%)

Rozier would be a huge upgrade, plus would send Dennis to the 2nd unit where he thrives.

what was it you were saying about rozier not being a shooter?

i guess calling it disingenuous was giving you the benefit of the doubt that you actually knew that rozier was a very good shooter whose percentage wasn't matching it this year. but i guess in your world bruce bowen is a better shooter than james harden cuz factz.

seriously, i thought you were just trying to score argument points, but it seems like you just sort of...don't understand context?

Yeah except we would only be able to sign one with our cap situation, we have to sign them outright and be under the cap afterward. VanFleet should see a value drop with the way he's shooting this season. Not really sure he's a target anymore.

Yeah I guess you’d have to include Oubre. Don’t want Hayward.

Rozier is a baller. That being said, he’s not a “star” so our FO isn’t interested.

The Hornets would only do it if they could offload Hayward onto us.
