didn't someone pick up frank jackson?

edit: it was phx, but they waived him in the preseason.

i was interested as a buy-low reclamation project. thought he had potential.

have not read what others have said but maybe, just maybe, they are trying to help him out by waiving him in time for someone else to consider him in their plans before the trade deadline!!????

The lack of true bigs in this NBA makes it an even bigger mismatch over previous years because if a team even has a true 7-footer or close to 7, they will have them assigned to AD or Turner and Turner's ability to pull them out to the perimeter while AD can pull a big out to mid-range leaves the basket wide open for runners. Their natural instincts to block will make defensive help special on this team. No one going near the rim will do so without fear and the expectation of being swatted from behind.

They’re so full of s***. I agree with Anthony in the second piece, they’ve made their decision

oh good lord another conspiracy theory piece? sorry, irwin's not a journalist; he's just a disgruntled fan with a platform.

this is garbage. we'll sell out games and jerseys in last place. that's not at all what any of this is about. i find it weird that people have latched onto this, tbh.

the truth is that rob got an extension and is acting like he's interested in the long-term health of the franchise instead of finishing 6th this year. i'm on board. and if you've watched lebron the past couple years, you should be, too.

love that he's like "klutch is going to be mad". it's worked out so great when we worried about klutch getting mad in the past!! that's why we're here! glad we're done worrying about klutch getting mad that we're not doing their bidding.

and we very well might do nothing. but that's not because we haven't been trying and instead have been trying to fool the fanbase for...reasons...

it will be because teams haven't made an offer worth taking.

feel like that narrative requires frequent and strong pushback lest it take hold.

Yeah, Irwin probably takes it a step too far but I do think its possible that the FO has come to the conclusion that LeBron isn't good/durable enough anymore to lead this team to a championship. It wouldn't be an unfair assessment, he looked better last night but his isolation scoring has been pretty rough so far. That would factor into whether an offer is worth taking. Personally, I still think this team with Hield/Turner could lean into a tough defensive identity and make a run with this version of LeBron.

I'm not buying that Irwin piece. I don't think the Lakers FO have given up on this pairing. But we shall see of course. It wouldn't make much sense.

I like listening to Irvin's podcast(s), but agreed with @abeer3 - he's just a disgruntled fan with a platform. It doesn't seem to me like there is much "substance" behind most of his theories about the Lakers.

There will be a trade sooner or later this season, I prefer it to be when we have some kind of leverage even if it's late into the season, than when all the other teams are expecting to fleece us.

Ok fine, ignoring the Irwin piece, which I only added for laughs, how can you ignore the Harrison Faigen one? The Lakers can’t judge this team yet? Just like they couldn’t last season without Ariza? It’s a line of BS, this team was able to be judged in preseason, probably training camp. They know they have a mediocre roster because of Russ’ contract, and they know the Bev trade has been a mostly poor one on the floor. If I weren’t already mostly resigned to them giving up on this season I’d be more annoyed at these reports, but as it is the volume of them is mostly what’s annoying, like just stop.

yeah, note that if lebron's not an iso scorer, even a hield/turner trade doesn't save us. but a beal/irving/derozan deal is more sensible from that standpoint. just sayin'.

yeah, i disagree that we can't judge yet. i think we can. it's basically a 38-44 win team as constructed, imo, assuming no further major injuries. so what do you do with that?

…. he hasn’t been one of the Twitter guys claiming we’re likely waiting until last day in Feb for “show” and probably not going to do anything? Asking for a friend. ;)

I agree with all of this actually. I'm just not in the make a trade NOW camp. Besides, I haven't heard any Lakers official say these things (about being able to judge the team, setting specific deadlines etc.), it all sems to be speculation to some extent at least.

We could have traded Matt Ryan to z Utah for a 1st round pick.

or to others for a 2nd. Hard for me to believe there was nobody interested in him or that he couldn’t be a value add throw in with a trade that could be waived by a team trying to save money.

    feels odd

    feels racial

    feels vindictive

    feels Lebronish

Well, we have heard that the Lakers will not make a move until at least December 15th - that seemed to be a direct leak. This was after another direct leak that they wouldn't make a move before 20 games had elapsed (around Thanksgiving). The talk of them saying they can't tell what they have is certainly either nonsense from the FO or nonsense speculation. We all know this team as constructed is not a contender. We are waiting to make a move that works for us. More and more I'm siding with abeer3 about making a trade with Charlotte. The Indy trade opp seemed to pass this summer when we pulled out as per their two FRP ask. I like the idea of getting Rozier, maybe Oubre, maybe Washington or Plumlee. That fills some serious holes. Hopefully it would only cost one FRP or maybe even none as we are taking on salary with Rozier and aiding the Hornets in their tank. That would be great because we'd have Pat Beverly, Nunn and Jones to move in another trade to get rid of deadweight. Maybe with a pick, maybe without.

Agreed. You could see the ceiling of this team pretty much when they were done assembling it.

We resigned LeBron and AD is here for a few years, so yeah unless we're going to mail it in for the length of those contracts then the front office has to look for role players that help us today and down the road.

We're attached to the LeBron wagon for the forseeable future so if the front office has given up on it then that's another notch in the fail column IMO.
