your point's fair, but nike doesn't use posters of slave laborers to sell its shoes (i.e., the corporation is acting in self-interest at all times--something championed by irving sympathizers, ironically). i'm sorry that a mentally-ill multi-millionaire is experiencing financial and social hardship, though. he'll cry himself to sleep on his pillow that costs more than my car.

How much money has this fool who thinks he’s he’s smart and standing for truth and enlightenment, damn the money, cost himself including last year? At some point that’s going to smack him upside the head. He just discovered dictionaries huh? Maybe he should check out this new technology called photography and take a gander in these things called books and while on line where he loves being so much, at some of the photos from the concentration camps.

Speaking of which we were speaking ....

NBA salary-cap preview: The wild-card Lakers and where each team stands for summer 2023

Now that the extension window is closed for both rookie-scale players and veterans with more than one season left on their contracts, it is a great time to get a sense of the 2023 offseason. We’ll focus on how much flexibility each franchise will have next summer and lay things out team by team to see how things look about eight months before free agency.

Before getting into that, here’s a quick breakdown of what the $134 million projected cap figure means for the other important offseason elements. RealGM puts together incredibly useful estimates in this area, and a $134 million salary cap leads to a $162 million luxury tax (up from this season’s $123.7 million cap and $150.3 million luxury tax).

Here are the projected max contracts for each experience level:

    • 25 percent max (0-6 years experience): $33.5 million starting salary; five years, $194.3 million with current team; four years, $144.1 million with another team
    • 30 percent max (7-9 years experience): $40.2 million starting salary; five years, $233.2 million with current team; four years, $172.9 million with another team
    • 35 percent max (10-plus years experience): $46.9 million starting salary; five years, $272 million with current team; four years, $201.7 million with another team
And here are the projected exception amounts at that same cap estimate:

    • Non-taxpayer midlevel exception: four years, $48.9 million ($11.4 million starting salary)
    • Taxpayer midlevel exception: three years, $22.1 million ($7 million starting salary)
    • Room exception: two years, $12 million ($5.9 million starting salary)
    • Biannual exception: two years, $9.1 million ($4.4 million starting salary)
More details on those exceptions can be found here. Before diving in team-by-team, here’s a quick look of where things stand with teams split up by spending power. (A reminder that figures for exceptions, cap space, etc. are projections at this point.)

    (Blah blah blah Other Teams)

    LA Clippers
A jaw-dropping $39 million over the tax line, including their $6.8 million team option on John Wall. On top of it, they will pay the repeater tax.

    Los Angeles Lakers
There are two basic 2023 paths for the Lakers as things stand right now: They could clear up to around $34 million in cap space, but it would require letting basically everyone not named LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Max Christie and Damian Jones go (including Patrick Beverley, Lonnie Walker IV, Russell Westbrook and others). Alternatively, general manager Rob Pelinka could retain some of those players or trade them in-season for talent on multi-season contracts (or willing to re-sign) so they stay over the cap and potentially the tax. What makes their situation different is that the Lakers likely make this choice at or before the trade deadline rather than in the offseason even though they will not know exactly who will hit free agency and would be receptive to signing into that cap space. The reason why they likely choose at the deadline is the reality that it is incredibly hard to recoup value for non-premium unrestricted free agents in sign-and-trades since they can just leave without compensation, though the Lakers could value seeing how the season plays out more than the difference in assets between the two.

My guess is Kyrie's shoes may not be selling all that well, and with the bad press, they have some fine print that allows them to get out of his lucrative contract.

You can crap on certain sets of people all day long. You can crap on certain religious groups, and you'll be celebrated. But do the big no no, and your world will come crashing down in a heart beat. Interesting how that works. Interesting how some people notice it, and others don't. It just is what it is.

But this decision by Nike may be just about as much about money as optics IMHO.

2-6 Let’s go get Kyrie, Rob! This mediocrity would not get any better with this lot.

This whataboutism is stupid. Two wrongs don’t make a right. Deflecting what one person did to point out what someone else did is dumb, it’s a dumb argument. It’s all I’m seeing on Twitter and message boards, and I really don’t get it, I don’t get jumping to someone’s defense like they’re you’re family member when you don’t even know them. So Nike has some bad practices, that means they should do nothing at all when someone they are partnered with does something wrong? Again, that’s stupid.

On another note, damn, maybe a jazz deal wasn’t that bad, Bojan is ballin and Conley cooked us tonight. Kidding. Kind of.

I don’t see anyone excusing Kyrie at all. I pointed out how it’s funny that Nike is jumping in on this like an innocent party, but I also point out that it’s likely financially motivated.

you know they have fine print that will likely let them get away with it too

anyone who doesn’t see that connection baffles me. But go ahead and call people stupid. It’s classy. Do you.

That’s a horrible risk. Good for Rob for declining that amazing opportunity.

Lakers star LeBron James spoke on the recent controversy surrounding Nets star Kyrie Irving, who has been suspended and has faced backlash since posting a link to a documentary titled “From Hebrews to Negroes: Wake up Black America!,” a film with antisemitic views.

“I believe that what Kyrie did caused some harm to a lot of people,” James said after the Lakers 130-116 loss to the Jazz on Friday. “And he has since, over the last – I think it was today, or yesterday – he apologized. But he caused some harm and I think it’s unfortunate. But I don’t stand on the position to harm people when it comes to your voice or your platform or anything. So it doesn’t matter what color your skin is, how tall you are, what position you’re in. If you are promoting or soliciting or saying harmful things to any community that harms people, then I don’t respect it. I don’t condone it.”

Irving was suspended for “no less than five games” the Nets announced in a Thursday statement after he initially refused to apologize for his actions, which also included an endorsement of the “New World Order” views held by conspiracy theorist Alex Jones.

“I can tell you this, it’s simple. Me personally, I don’t condone any hate to any kind,” James said. “To any race. To Jewish communities, to Black communities, to Asian communities. You guys know where I stand. And that’s part of the reason why I didn’t air ‘The Shop’ episode, why we kicked that out of the archives. Because it was hate conversation going on there. And I don’t represent that. There’s no place in this world for it.”

Previously, James had scrapped publication plans of an episode of ‘The Shop,’ his talk show, with rapper Kanye West because of antisemitic remarks.

“I hope [Irving] understands what he did and the actions that he took are just harmful to a lot of people,” James said. “I really didn’t get into it too much. But, I understand that when you’re hurting anybody, I understand that. That is just common sense.”

James and Irving were teammates with the Cleveland Cavaliers from 2014 to 2017. Together they won an NBA title in 2016 before Irving demanded a trade in 2017 to Boston.
