Rob, if you're going to punt the season, just come out and say it. If not, go do something, lol. Stop straddling the fence.
i said before the season that they needed to not panic when we started like this. we were going to start like this; it was clear from the preseason. new coach/system, entirely new team (again), brutal schedule. more losses are coming, and we can't give indy two picks because we're mad about october losses.
i'm on the "never panic" team. start 0-20? don't panic. i know people are joking that it's a trick or something, but if we're that bad, why on earth do you pull a win-now panic trade? if we can't win half of the first 20 games, maybe a turner/hield type upgrade is a stupid idea.
yeah, i'm not ready to say they can't be better than last year's 33-win team, but we're definitely not contending at all. but i knew that last year.
This team will look far different by the end of the year. Both in play and personnel. It's ugly to watch for now, but it will improve. Impossible not to pretty much.
The only trade that would have saved us was Kyrie. A Turner/Hield trade might make us a playoff team and thats not enough upside to trade both future picks. I’m leaning towards a trade that won’t cost us both picks but will bring us multiple assets to hopefully do something with in the future.
i wanted a conley trade, and i'll still take it. i'd love a SA trade where we just dump russ, get two rotation players who aren't vet mins, and a big TE. can't see why that doesn't get done, tbh. they're not asking for both picks, i don't think.
Honestly 20-25 games is too long to wait before picking up the phone. If that's the plan, just send Russ home and keep the roster as is. You're not climbing out of that hole. The marker should be 10 games. You can turn the ship at that stage, but not when the season is 25% over.
boston was 17-19 on january 1st this year. they started that season 2-5. the mavs once started 0-4 and won 67 games. the point isn't that that's what's going to happen, it's that we're doing a LOT of extrapolating from 4 games. a lot.
Agreed that it is very early. Anything is possible. If it wasn't, we might as well shut Bron down now. It's why we love the game and why they play it. I thought the team before the year was a contender for the play in and that does appear to be our current ceiling. I will say about those two comps is that Boston had the talent, there was no doubt about that. We don't. Apparently it was a Schroder problem for them and guess what... now we have him. Again. That Mavs roster had Dirk, JT, and J-Ho all in their primes. Our three best players are a long way from their primes
Crazy enough, I think the team can still claw its way back if we get some shooting and can somewhat maintain our defense. The current roster is cooked and will not compete though. There's a definitely a point where we'll be in too big of a hole to climb out of. We need to be at 8 to 9 wins at the 20 game mark. Not 3 or 4. Beyond that, it would also be nice to actually create a real roster with some continuity going into next season. Put together a solid, competitive team that just needs to be tweaked and added to rather than completely overhauled every year. Especially since we extended LeBron. Start putting some good guys around him and AD now so they can at least develop chemistry and majority of the team is on the same page and rolling next year instead of having to try to learn each other and new style of play. The current method of team building just isn't going to work.
Bro, it's done, IMO. This is the beginning of the LFT here in a Lakers uniform. I'm convinced. Adjust your expectations. If you don't, you'll continue to be disappointed.
agree, Elgin. we need to move russ and be willing to take on salary to do it. that will help build a little continuity, too. i'd like to net three role players--even just bench players, tbh, if possible. i'd like to do so while holding onto at least one of our picks, and really, i'd prefer to keep both. i'm willing to do swaps, which probably look great to our competitors right now!
sorry, flushing after 4 games is a bit silly. things stabilize after 20. if we're not near .500 then, it's over. it's not over now. just like it's not time to plan utah's parade.
