I have no idea how Harkless has played the last couple of years. If he can still defend well I’d be fine waiving Gabriel to bring him in. I don’t think Gabriel contributes anything.

Yeah, washed in the sense that he doesn't seem to have a place in the league, Bazemore type. It did worked with Stan and Gabriel so who knows

Nice reading. I get your point but I think you're overextending the years.
In 2024 Lebron's contract ends. Pick that year goes to Pels or they can postpone it to 2025, which is likely. So after LeBron's contract ends, we most likely have no pick. It's also when we finally get the right to trade 2031 pick.
Then we got the 26. If we do the trade, we don't have 27. So in the 3 years post LeBron, we have 1 of 3 picks.
Finally, only AFTER 2028 draft, we will be able to trade at least 3 picks (if we do that deal), so it will be 4 years after LeBron's expiring.

So trading both picks means 4 years after LeBron without picks to trade for any all-star and half of it without owning our draft picks.
Plus, means we have no more picks to trade during Lebron's window as well.

If we DON'T trade, in 2024 we have 27', 29' and 31' pick + swap '26, '28 and '30. Meaning we are full equipped to be the main name of any superstar that wants out, like it happened with Durant and Donovan this off-season. I prefer to have that much power that time and set us to get mid to late 20s superstar that can lead us from 2024 to 2028 and beyond than 4 years of purgatory, with no assets and no picks + putting us in a worst spot to be a hot location for a superstar compared to 2024. It's a better invitation card to get the reigns from LeBron than to come to a franchise that goes 4 years being irrelevant and scrambling

I’ve been advocating for Harkless for a couple of weeks now. An experienced wing taller than 6’4, and AD insurance when and if he gets injured.

enjoying the nuanced and respectful back and forth here.

i do think one unconsidered variable is (as i believe elgin mentioned?) that we could, in theory, recover some picks post-lebron via renting cap space for picks like a small market. but we've basically never done that (despite operating like a small market in many other ways).

i'm not entirely opposed, but our own picks will be more valuable during the period in question, imo. this is why i was willing to move protected picks in earlier conversations. it would take us out of the running for star trades, but keep tanking and cap space rental as a viable strategy.

Yes. Even with a Russ deal you could still potentially bring back a pick if a team wanted us to take on a longer contract.

Despite his rep, if reports are true there was at least a period of real dialogue going on between us and Ainge (unlike Indiana). We can try the same approach with another team.

we don’t necessarily have to walk away with no picks if the front office plays it right.

Sometimes some roster overhaul just happens when you can't afford to resign players that you had on team-friendly contracts. As for picks, we have ALL of our picks except for 1 FRP from the AD trade. We're doing pretty damn good there. We have suffered more from injury from the big 2 than anything else, more than Westbrook or any roster changes that has been our #1 detriment to the team. This team IS Lebron and AD and any loss of either and you can forget it. Would the bubble team have done anything with either Lebron or AD out? No. We were 12-9 with the 3 of them on the court last season which isn't amazing but a .571 win ratio would have placed us 7th in the West, facing Dallas in the first round. Likely if the 3 of them had more play time together things may have panned out better.

And what ridiculous contracts have we handed out exactly? Seeing as how we can't hand ANY contracts out besides vet mins, rookie deals and MLEs? We traded for Pat Bev but he's worth his 13mil.

Yeah, I’m completely convinced that there is no way we should be trading either of these firsts unless, like abeer has stated before, we somehow get a young star in return.
    It’s just not worth it.

I really loved Hayward’s game before his injury woes started piling up.

I would be totally for him, if it weren’t for our much more pressing need of adding a shooter, or two.

Bad contracts are the mark of a Lebone team. Think Tristan Thompson. It’s probably coming, but yes so far, you can really only slide RW in as a terrible contract since they are handcuffed

You can never plan for injuries.
You can however, build a team with depth, so that when said injuries arise, your team doesn’t become the worst team in the West.

All of their tradeable pieces in Charlotte have put up solid numbers in these first two.

Tonight it still looks like SA, Utah, and Indy need help in their race to last.

I will say there is no way to plan around a loss of either LBJ or AD unless you are one lucky-a$$ roster builder. Same thing goes for Steph, KD or Giannis, no one can afford the loss of them.
