should be an interesting podcast from them as they seem to have different overall views of the move. I’m gonna just hope for the best. There’s ways Rob can potentially use this to advantage so I’ll pull for that.
Are the twitter guys and here going to keep ripping Rob for our roster after finally getting to see the potential depth and athleticism and defense and offense 6-12 out there can bring as Ham starts to have them gel?
bad news sells, great news sells mediocre news must become bad news to sell, as nobody is buying great news at this point
We will keep being critical of the team until it’s at least not in the play in game. If that bothers anyone I suggest they just block me.
We’ve literally won one preseason game. The fact that that is some kind of victory for a franchise like the Lakers is the very reason there’s so much criticism. We’ve been consistently bad for years with the notably exception of our title year (which I don’t discredit). There’s a variety of reasons for that but some of those reasons are absolutely on the organization and discussion of that should be fair game on a message board. so yeah, there’s going to be criticism and I just don’t get this continued movement on here to act like posters, Twitter guys, the media, etc is just making things up or something.
Hey, he's the one who put the onus on himself: championship or bust. And I hope he makes us est our words by making a fantastic trade. I'm not rooting for him to fail. That would be moronic. I hope we have a great season and he makes a fantastic trade if there is an opportunity available.
Exactly. I’m not rooting for anyone in the organization to fail. If he pulls off a good trade I’ll be right here to give him his credit. But when the product on the court fails to live up to the standard set by the franchise, I’m going to comment on that too.
not to go all slick on ya, but rob didn't injure lebron and AD, and that's the only reason we've been in the play-in/missed the playoffs in those 3/4 years. we'd have been top 6 every year, no doubt, had our stars been healthy. and we'd have gone to the finals consecutively had AD not been injured in the playoffs.
I'll take it from you because I respect/like you. And I'm sorry about cursing at you a couple of weeks ago. It's all good. Water under the bridge with Rob. He's here now - if he fails or succeeds, I'll be here to voice my GM armchair opinion.
lol, i'd already forgotten. anyway, being critical is fine. i haven't loved all of rob's moves and have said so on numerous occasions. he doesn't have a claim as the league's best gm, but as i said a couple pages ago, his resume is a lot better than many or most of them. i also wouldn't read too much into the extension, as it's cheaper and easier to fire coaches and gms than it is to cut players (see: vogel). interestingly, i view rob's extension, in part, as a sort of admission of guilt from the larger organization re: the russ deal (not unlike when vogel ceremonially started marc gasol in the last game of the phx series). he's being given a chance to dig out, and the security of the longer deal means lebron and AD don't get to negotiate future trades.
I’ve always acknowledged we had some bad breaks. I feel like most posters here do which makes me scratch my head a bit when it seems like posters suggest otherwise. There’s only a few guys here that I think are pretty much always negative or positive.
Yeah. As I said, I wasn’t too surprised by the extension and there are ways Rob can use it to his advantage.
nice not to be alone in my disgust now if the lot of you just weren't round earthers, we'd probably get along even better joke lang
We did have some bad breaks with LeBron and AD missing time, but the team shouldn’t have been so bad without them that they got bear down by 30 every night. We shouldn’t have depended on LeBron in season 19 putting up 30 per night to even be in games, that’s terrible roster construction, that team was horrendous. We had a formula that worked, LeBron, AD, and depth, and Rob blew that up in favor of a big name. Sorry, I’m going to hold that against gun until he fixes it.
The formula simply doesn't work without James and Davis. We played sub 500 ball with Lebron, after AD went down in the 21 season. Luckily Lebron played in 43 straight games that season or it would have been even worse. All of them whiffed in the Phoenix series, every single one of that vastly superior supporting cast, failed to show up against a bunch of dudes, that had never even been in the playoffs before. We were right to make a move, it just didn't work out. If we brought the entire squad back last season, we would have still sucked.
I really don’t understand the short sightedness of blaming EVERYTHING on injuries. It’s ridiculous and makes the excuser sound like they know nothing about how a NBA roster is properly built. The reason you have an intelligent GM build a roster with depth is so you can keep your team treading water while your injured players recover. It always has, and always will be a part of the game. If you can stop and separate AD and LeBronze’s injuries and look at how teams have been constructed, you can see just how poorly the decisions have been. We’ve outlined so many times before just have far Rob has diverged from a winning formula that was already proven. We had the roadmap, it lead us to our last Chip, and he threw it out, for whatever reason, every summer since by over correcting.
zillionaire athletes don't need/deserve excuses being made for them by fans. to me that's like saying "I could have averaged 40 points per game if I wanted to" Just no. Just do it. Just show us. Less talk, more action.
Yeah and at the end of the day, The 21 team played sub 500 ball with Lebron too. The only real road map was a healthy James and Davis. No other team overcomes such a thing happening either. There is no stopping and seperating the injuries to your best players. That s*** is ridiculous. There aren't any teams constructed to overcome that, look at Golden State two years ago. Total nonsense to think that " roster construction " is designed to offset your star players playing in 30 games or less. If it did..they weren't star players in the 1st place.
