This is what I was sort of trying to say but instead ending up babbling as I do time to time. If we can't sign a great big with the max, I don't throw it at a good one. I'd much rather sign a good or serviceable C for cheaper and go after other positions wit the money. I'd absolutely go after Harris or Carrol if we have a shot there. If the rest of your roster is good enough, you can get by with a serviceable big, we just saw the 2 teams in the Finals as an example of that. And jerry88, you make good points, I just can't get past DJ for max, I do not think he is a max guy. For prime Chandler money, sure. I wasn't saying I would sign Chandler either if you got that from my post, just using him for comparison. He's past his prime, and I think under contract anyway, for the highest he's ever made in a season, 14+ mil. Nice move by Phil moving that contract actually, not so much by Cuban trying to re-create the 2011 team years too late.
Chandler is available actually Weez. Also when the cap blows up Jordan's max isn't much at all. A max contract for a veteran is usually 30-35% of the cap but at 20 million Jordan would only be about 22% of the cap or so. It really wouldn't be a true max deal.
Cool, we're on the same page Weezy. I mean, I really would be totally satisfied to go that direction. If that happened this off season I'd be fine with it at this point. I'd still be bummed that we didn't pick Okafor, but as an alternative I could roll with it.
I just really don't think Jordan is coming here. I think we'd be third on his list, and I think LMA is going to at least think hard about coming here even if he ultimately ends up in SA.
Well, I guess I'd take Chandler for half of what he made last season then, but I don't see it. And follow you man, I don't think we disagree much at all on our long term plans/hopes for the team. But that DJ, ugh, just don't want him, and I'm not good with numbers so if you're saying his max is 20 mil that's insane. I wouldn't give him that if the cap was 100 mil. He's a less offensively skilled Dwight Howard, and that is an accomplishment. Plus you know how I felt about Dwight.
Got to say I'm not a fan of signing Chandler. Too long in the tooth. And I highly doubt he signs for that little money. I think we have a better shot at keeping Davis, and I'd rather go with him than Chandler because of his age.
His max averages about 20 million but starts between 18-19 million. After signing him we'd have probably 3-5 million left to find gems like Mitch does. Chandler is said to be looking for 3/36 which is obviously too high. I think for a good team/good fit he settles for something like 3/30 but he'd have to be really into the team. The key would be putting Davis behind him. Two defensive guys that don't make a lot of mistakes and clean up the glass. Nice.
Yeah, no thanks to Chandler for over 10 more, agree with LJ, rather try and keep Ed Davis, he really made me a fan this season. One of the few guys we had that consistently brought the energy and heart every game. Oh and no thanks to DJ at 18 to 20 mil, if we do that I'm honestly gonna be pissed as I'd have been had we re-signed Dwight for 5 years.
^^ Chandler is looking for too much money and is too long in the tooth for me, realdeal. I'd rather keep Davis and get ourselves a starting caliber SF. Covers both of our glaring holes.
So who goes to the bench if you target a SF? Either Clarkson or Russell has to start as a backup to make that happen. I'm fine with it, just wondering. Also keep in mind Davis is really undersized to be starting at Center. I think if you miss out on Jordan, Aldridge, or Gasol then you have to go for something like Asik/Davis over Carroll or Harris/Davis.
I think Robin lopez would fit in well on this team for the right price. If the Laker strike out with LMA, jordan and others I think an offensive group like Russell, clarkson, swaggy, kobe, randle would benefit greatly with a "garbage" like guy in lopez
IMO you put Russell on the bench until he starts to get a good feel for the NBA kinda like they did with clarkson...Once that happens I think you put clarkson as a backup/6th man role
Got you No i knew you weren't saying for us to sign chandler i just dont think that deandre will be bad for that kind of money especially with the max going up to 108 in a few yrs at that point his contract ends up being only like 22-23% of the cap. I think whats most important is finding a way to build a team that is balanced and i think that with him we balance out well and salaries are just gonna keep getting higher so i think it would behoove us to lock him up now instead of looming for someone later when we'll have to pay even more
Since the Lakers needs some back ups. Lakers needs some back ups at C, PF, wing and PG. How bout the players who haven't signed with a team last year? Nah; we target a C and go all out. We'll have Kobe and Young, other in house options for the wing spots, and then we'll court Durant after Kobe leaves. Russell Clarkson Durant Randle Jordan -He might want a piece of that. Especially if we're rocking a second unit with Some Vet PG/Young/Nance/Black/Upshaw
Okafor might be interesting, depending on how he recovered from his Injury. As I scroll through that list ... what happened to Josh Howard?! Feels like ages I have recognized him.
I agree actually and I think Robin Lopez has a great vibe for LA too. He's a hustler and hard worker on the court, but he's pretty goofy off it. I think LA would find him fascinating. If we strike out on Aldridge and Jordan, he's definitely up there on my list of targets.
