This team stinks. Roster is horribly constructed.

Wait until the start of the season and we struggle in the first 20 games or so. If we're hovering around .500, he'll be pressured to do something.

By the way, February will be too late. He should set a soft deadline by December to really start acting if the team going south.

To be clear, I get all the risks of giving up the picks. Also, there's a point where you have to walk away. But yeah, if that was really the best we could do, I ultimately give up the picks. Its definitely not ideal though.

Could be with the cap space. I don't know though. We love stars.

Yeah, that's what troubles me. We get into a hole and we've still got zero leverage in a deal. Looking at the early schedule, I'm not seeing too many confident wins. Team has to instantly gel and play well to be at or above .500 coming into december. I think the all star break will be too late and we will be fighting for the play in game again.

Pressure is on for the team right off the bat.

This is the bottom line. His job is to put out a legitimate contender and he has not the last two seasons. I thought there would be other moves to improve this roster but there seemingly won’t be. No one with reasonable objectivity expects more than play in status for this team as constructed. That’s a fail.

i think we won't move out of desperation. so if we start terribly, maybe russ gets sent home or something, but we won't call indy up asking to give them 2 1sts, imo. we'll wait for someone else to also be having a bad time and needing to get off salary, imo.

what if washington stumbles hard out of the gate? do they want to get off beal? or porzingis (maybe WE get a pick)?

atlanta could suck again and maybe collins becomes available cheaper?

i don't know; i think after not knee jerking in the summer, it would be weird to pull a desperation move in december or even february. but we'll see.

i'm with svtzr on this, though--stay the course. if a deal comes up for russ that is a) an upgrade or b) simply breaks up his salary and doesn't involve losing a 1st, i pull the trigger. picks only go out for major upgrades that we think will carry us for a period of time.

again, the folks after rob need to understand that he functionally works for the sacramento kings in terms of payroll concerns, whereas morey and marks and frank and myers have open checkbooks.

edit: btw, i think he's overblowing the repeater tax angle on the russ trade, as we could definitely make deals that brought in only partial long-term salary.

i also seriously doubt buha and amick's assertion that we're chasing big name FAs with less than max money available (as the author points out).

Buss family needs to sell the team then. This is THE greatest franchise in the history of the NBA, it needs to be run as such. Let the Dodgers group buy it.

That I can agree with. I’m not advocating ownership change but I could get behind that move. The Dodgers put out a fantastic product. 10 straight trips to the playoffs and 9 division titles in that time. They are outstanding. And they field a likeable team that’s so easy to root for. No Schroder and BevMo types. Ugh. Can’t believe what the Lakers have become. It’s embarrassing. The Caruso fiasco was sort of the first domino to fall.

the dodgers operate without limits and without any real rules governing salary, too, though.

their ownership group wouldn't guarantee the same success in the nba, but it would help. the clippers' 10th man makes 8 figures, and they employ two max guys with 10 years experience. they're not dodging the repeater.

Damn, if avoiding the repeater tax is the goal for next year it's beyond ridiculous after paying 50mil to an aged LeBron. It's clearly not caring AT ALL for the basketball side. Only financials, marketing and the shareholders. Yuck

And there's people still blaming Rob

Yeah, I’m absolutely done with all of the weak excuses.
If you aren’t smart enough to put a GM in place who actually has good relationships with the rest of the League, you need to sell.
If you would rather keep paying an aging star way too much money, ensuring you won’t have enough left over to build a proper team, you need to sell.
If you can no longer compete financially, with the rest of the owners in the League, you need to sell.
When you pretend to be a poverty franchise whom nobody respects, then you turn your once Proud Franchise into that farce.
For me, if Jeanie would have surrounded herself with extremely savvy basketball minds who actually had good relationships with others around the League, she could have succeeded. The double whammy of not having billionaire funds along with only trusting her friends is just too much to overcome. I would much rather see her change her ways and hire some Front Office people outside of her friend circle, but I ain’t hold in’ my breath, waiting for this to happen.

I feel exactly the same way regarding all of this.
I sure hope I’m wrong and somehow this team gels quickly and proves us doubters wrong.

Seriously, this is unacceptable. The great Lakers behaving like a small market team... it needs to be sold to someone who can make it right.

Honestly, I'll watch, but my expectations are just getting to the PO's with the current roster.

We're not winning a chip with this team as currently constructed. So, I'll just kick back, watch the season, and see if we make an season trade that propels this team's ceiling.

I'm excited about watching Darvin Ham, through. Can't wait to see new scheme, how players are used, the spacing etc. Excited about Reaves,.

If I remember correctly, the 08-09 season, I didn't have high expectations. Then, the team came out started well, and we traded for Pau Gasol, and the rest was history.

Guess I'll just have to wait and see...

I don’t know how much I can watch this team as constructed. I can’t stand BevMo or Schroder so I’m already very soured on it. I’ve never had to root for two Lakers I’ve disliked more than these two. The fact that we are still stuck with Russ just makes it even more of a train wreck. Plus we traded Stan who was a player I actually really liked.

As LVBD said at least Reaves is here who was the highlight of last season. I’m just unenthused about the Lakers in a way I’ve never been before. At least I’ve got the Dodgers right now.

Yeah. Expectations are low for me too.

I said in another post that I doubt we will be able to move Russ since it’s clear no teams want him so we’re going to have to see what Ham can do with him. He should be able to put up good numbers at least a few games so we’ll see.

The rest is on AD and LeBron. I think we’ll see improved effort with our new additions. That should help. AD getting back and reclaiming his spot as one of the best players in the league would be huge.

If we can get to 6 and draw the right matchup in the playoffs then maybe second round? I don’t know. Trying to be glass half full but there’s a lot of unknowns. I do like Ham are some of our new additions though.

    Definitely hoping for the best.
