Other teams aren't wanting to trade for an expiring when he won't commit to signing an extension with them. Most teams won't make the Kawhi gamble that Toronto did and aren't one piece away like they were. Turner has been vocal about wanting to be in LA so for anyone but us, that is too risky of a gamble.

Where did he say that he wants to be in LA?

Then we were wise not to give up the picks or take Hield.

That came out in February when we were first linked to him. Will try to find it.

It is when we have lived through oh, we'll just get them in free agency experience and failed. When we desperately need shooting. When the alternative is Russ (not an opening for a Russ discussion). Or when in any other circumstance, Turner nets three firsts (sure they'll be some protections on that or maybe even a swap) on the open market if he had 3 years left on his deal at the projected $20m-ish he's going to get. Meaning in any other scenario, we aren't in a position to be in the discussion to trade for him.

lol forgot about THT, too. again, maybe no monk there, but instead THT gets to actually play to his strengths in some lineups. the bigger advantage was not having 50 million tied up in one non-star player, though.

yeah, it's going to annoy me when these guys that cost us 2 1sts go for much less later.

I don’t recall him saying that either. Maybe there were a few light hearted social media comments about playing in LA, but nothing to take seriously IMO. He’s otherwise publicly said he likes it in Indiana. A far cry from the Kawhi saga where his camp was shouting from the rooftops that he’d go to LA in free agency as an intentional tactic to try to steer him to where they wanted.

If we maintain our cap space, I could certainly see us signing Turner. But I could also see him turning us down for a higher bidder without a blink. And given how uncertain our situation is, I could also still see his camp essentially agreeing to one of those trade and extensions to another team mid-season (ie when another team expresses trade interest to Indiana on the contingency that they’d want Turner long term, so Turner’s camp let’s them know behind the scenes that they would sign long term after the trade).

not positive about that...his injury history is worrisome (can't believe people who bag on AD daily are mad we didn't get turner with 2 1sts), and even when he seemed to playing well, his team was never fully confident in him--he's basically been on the block forever.

i agree that the "player x will just come here in the summer" plan is fraught with peril. and honestly, we got burned by a guy we thought we'd retain in schroder, too--any impending FA's value goes down unless their only value to begin with was financial relief for the following year, of course.

anyway, all of this is to say that indy should have more seriously considered russ/1 1st for turner/hield. to prove me wrong, they'll need to either nab 2 1sts or some comparable talent in trade. but i guess that's their gamble to make.

I don't think so, look at the packages being discussed for Collins in Atlanta. The asks were all star + pick, or 3 picks, or a top 5 pick + starter, and they had their hat in the ring for Simmons and other disgruntled top end talent. Ultimately they decided to try out their new "big 3" and see how it goes, but if it goes south those talks will heat back up at the deadline. He has a similar injury history, similar age and is locked up long term. There has been some rumblings about not a good locker room fit and maybe he and Young aren't bffs (Turner isn't tied to those kind of reports). I don't think he's as good as Turner, either.

I think she's talking about sewer water. The kind you have to pay to get rid of.

Why is she comparing raw sewage with clean and crystal clear drinking water? This makes no sense to me.

only thing is that the extension is limited by his current contract, so if he's really interested in cashing in, he wouldn't agree to an extend and trade.

Myles needs to be more vocal about wanting the Lakers which would all but guarantee that the Pacer's Chad Buchanan absolutely bungled the asset and lost their best player for nothing. I would love to be the team to sign Myles on a reasonable deal next summer and laugh at the Pacers, especially after the 1/2 million fine they got slapped on us for tampering which was basically Buchanan's first move as a GM there. Payback's a bi**h.

Sorry Pika but this doesn’t make sense. We could of kept Caruso but didn’t. We kept THT but traded him. And we’ve had Nunn and Lonnie Walker this year for our mMLE’s. So we’re talking about KCP and Kuz vs Russ. Not THT, Caruso and the mMLE’s that we still currently have.
