Gobert trade was a substantial overpay, so I’m not arguing the following point with much intensity, but…
Turner and Gobert are pretty similarly valuable players. Gobert grabs 4-5 more rebounds, which is substantial, but Turner is a career 35% 3pt shooter, which is substantially important in todays nba. Health is a factor for Turner, but if he’s healthy, 2frps isn’t ridiculous.

Yes it was Reaves first year and he didn’t play like LeBron, so let’s throw him away like all our other rookies.

Gobert grabs about 8 more rebounds..that's a big difference.

Conversely..there isn't exactly a huge gap between Turner and Bryant.

It is ridiculous to give up 2 FRP for Turner when we already have Bryant and Jones on board.

Just because Minnesota did some stupid s***...it doesn't mean that we have to follow suit.

I was looking at their career rpgs, which is 5 more. But the one year where Gobert averaged a low amount brings his averages down, so more consistently they’re about 6-7 apart, which is substantial. Gobert is a much better rebounder for sure. I’d say Turner is significantly closer to Gobert than Bryant is to Turner because of defense. Turner is an elite defender, actually pretty close to Gobert. Bryant isn’t even a good defender.

Not enough of a defensive gap to justify 2 FRP though.

Agreed. And he’s not a terrible player. He’s got his contract, his family loves LA. I think him coming back and being the first big off the bench or starting with AD and LeBron in the front court would be very useful. Is he a flawed player? Yes and we knew that when he was here. However, he’s not anywhere close to as flawed as Westbrook is and he’s improved greatly as a shooter since he’s left.

His contract will look better and better as the cap increases year by year.

would he have matured enough to embrace a reserve role? I feel like he still feels he has to make his mark in this league.

There’s still enough meat on the bone in certain stretches to have him, Lebron and AD on the floor in stretches. With both AD and Lebron’s lack of availability the last two years, what a great alternative it would be to have Jules in for them.

6'8" (essentially) Russell Westbrook is not the answer at all.

that's not totally fair. we know from Kobe's last game he knows how to set picks. I'm not sure RW knows how to set a pick.

When Westbrook says he doesn't set picks, others set picks for him.

Come on man he has already set enough pics this career. There is a cap on these things you know and you are supposed to take it easy after you hit them.

it's like rotating on defense. lebron and russ clearly exceeded their career number of rotations and were just letting reaves and really, literally anyone else, pad their numbers last year. how else will they learn, right?

:wasntme: yeah, because that's totally what I said. He was one of the lone bright spots in a miserable season, but the numbers are what they are. We think he can be a solid rotation piece on a good team, but we don't know that. If adding AR is the difference between trading Russ for Hield/Turner and having an actually competitive team next year or bringing Russ back/sending him home, wasting another LeBron year and hoping we can convince Kyrie to sign next year, I'm choosing the former. If Utah doesn't ask for AR check out that package, but the Jazz/Knicks role players package is significantly worse than Hield/Turner.

Heavily protected 1sts. It has to be because of Turner's health concerns and that the Pacers will lose him to free agency. I have absolutely zero trust that Pelinka can pull this off.
