I disliked the final season for a variety of reasons, but overall I enjoyed and liked how the show ended a lot. (Damn right Jon better pet Ghost!)

    Last season? Huh?

Personally I wouldn’t get too worked up about the non-canon fanfiction that HBO aired last month.

While initially I was upset, I’m actually pretty happy now that the show runners decided to stop the show after season 6 and let us fill in the ending in our minds or wait for the books to tie things up.

Still can’t get over how terrible the ending was. Probably the single most disappointed I’ve ever been in the ending of a show, movie, book, etc

So I’ve been trying not to let myself get hyped for House of the Dragon, I really don’t want to go through that level of pain and disappointment again… but I had heard a lot of buzz about the pilot and ended up checking it out.

Can’t lie, I thought it was pretty good and it felt nice to be back in Westeros

With House of the Dragon I'm trying to really just focus on it as its own show. I won't get too caught in it though as I definitely don't want to be disappointed again.

Do you remember Tony fishing with Bobby a few episodes before the last? Tony said that he believes when its your time to go
you won't see or hear anything. Just black. Tony was killed in the diner.

I hated the ending too, but after rewatching the series Im good with how it ended. They def rushed the last 2 seasons and that hurt the show more than the actual ending IMO. But the ending made sense.

Sure, few times actually. They're 10x better than the show... and the show was great (until the very end) ;)

Well right, I agree that where the plot ended is actually fine. I do think they landed at exactly where GRRM laid out in his initial outline to them.

The problem is that the journey to get there was so rushed, and written poorly without the nuance of the source material to build upon.

So because of that, I still consider it one of the worst/most disappointing finales of all time.

About Sopranos, I just watched it for the first time last year. Maybe my perception is different because I already had a vague idea about the ending and didn’t have to go through the initial shock of watching it live, but I actually really like the ending!

Yup, read them all, they are indeed very good. There is a lot more detail and insight into certain characters, some major plot points and characters that the show never got into.

The only thing is… personally I’m a bit bummed I invested so much time reading a book series that is unlikely to ever be finished.

Yeah, GOT left so much story telling on the table. For example, Jon and Khaleesi. They fall in love and like 1 episode later hes cruising around on the dragons. lol No arch. I think there should have been 2 more seasons to properly tell the story.

For me the new series was always going to die a death by comparisons if it could not carve out a niche. The appeal of the GOT (and I was late to the game) was the variety of characters and worlds. I feel the settings are aesthetically and thematically very dark and dull. I liked the way the GOT explored the world and gave a variety of characters and viewpoints. This series seems myopic in comparison, like some broken down kaleidoscope that focuses on a duller story where better stories are on offer.

Also I would say casting, where GOT hit the jackpot with a dozen vibrant and realized characters by actors who knew this could be there defining role and acting accordingly.

Full disclosure, Daenerys became my least favorite character in the show (and now in the books), with series 8 not helping. So maybe this show would never be for me. Essentially this prequel being so far in the past essentially kills (well removes) all the remaining characters from GOT, and that feels like a downer from the outset.
