His youth can only go so far as a selling point. Not a very compelling argument if that’s the only thing Rob could pitch. And it actually works against him because he’s only under control for one more year.

If he takes advantage of a bigger role in Utah and finally takes a big leap, he likely opts out and leaves anyways. So sure, he’s young and maybe develops into a productive player somewhere down the line. But he hasn’t shown it yet, so a team trading for him isn’t going to have high confidence that he’s going to take that big leap within his current contract.

I think we’ve been trying to trade THT for a while. The whole Lowry discussion isn’t relevant anymore. THT’s value was at a completely different place now than it was back then.

Sorry we can agree to disagree, but I don’t think THT having significant trade value at this point in time has been backed by any actual reporting. Again we were talking about potentially having to add additional assets just to trade him for Terrence Ross or Eric Gordon type players.

it's interesting to see how many people (on here and elsewhere) are fine with giving up on THT. he wasn't great last season but neither was the entire team. he's only 21 for crying out loud! you have to be patient with these kids. and to trade him for nothing more than 34 year old pat bev makes it even worse

Wonder if Rick Fox still has any connections within the organization…

Because Rob must lost every trade, it’s in his contract.

I'm fine with trading THT. Thought he was gone the second we brought in Walker. Felt that was confirmed when every trade we were looking at involving Russ was going to include another guard.

    I have a few problems...

    1) awful asset management. We sold low on him. Rob didn't trade him when his value was at a career high. We could've gotten Lowry for him. He was averaging 17/7/5 and shooting 40% from 3 that year. We should have kept Caruso instead of THT if we're going to bury and trade THT for someone who does what AC does at a much lesser level.

    2) Stan as salary filler. You do not give away young wings who can defend, especially on friendly contracts. Subpar PGs are still lined up in the FA market. DS, Bledsoe, Augustin, Dunn, Frank Jackson, Elfrid Payton, Rondo, or Kemba when that buyout comes through. Wings who can defend and still develop are few and far between and are one of the most valued commodities in the league. So to include him as filler is bad GM'ing. Don't care if you have Brown and JTA, that's not enough.

    3) Pat f***ing Beverley. Haven't hated a Laker this much since George. Overrated as they come. The barking and what he calls basketball is a mockery of the sport. Can't and won't cheer for him and hope he gets a Nunn bone bruise that keeps him off the floor. He doesn't deserve to play in P&G. Other options that were free are available. For a team with limited assets, he's not worth using any of them on.

I have no idea why people are against this deal.

    1) It's obviously a precursor to a Russ deal. There's not a chance in hell Westbrook and Beverley are on the same team.
    2) THT and Stanley were both going to be out of the rotation, according to Jovan Buha. Also according to math with 48 minutes set for each position and JTA and Troy Brown Jr (Klutch client) ahead of him.
    3) THT sucks, doesn't fit the LeBron/AD timeline, and can't play off ball.
    4) Beverley is a good fit. We needed perimeter D and he can hit shots better than the majority of our team as of now.
    5) He's competitive as hell. That matters. This team lacked competitiveness so much last year. We rolled over and played dead the majority of nights. We need his attitude so bad.
    6) I get he's been annoying to play against but this is the type of guy you love when he's on your team. He's a Sasha Vujacic, Raja Bell, Goran Dragic, Matt Barnes, Bruce Bowen, Ron Artest type.

This is a good day. Hopefully more great ones are on the way.

    Talk about overreacting.

Lakers Twitter is a mess, too.

    It isn't that bad.

Odd trade. To me Beverley was a buyout candidate… we’ve effectively swapped AC, THT and Stan for him with this move.

I also think Rob fumbled the mMLE when you view other options that went for less. Currently most people have Lonnie as a second or third stringer at the moment.

Poor asset management by Rob this off-season. Don’t really understand the roster construction either.

EDIT: PB is a good fit though, effort, a bit of D and some shooting. Hopefully he gets into Lebron to run back on D and for AD to bring some fire. We need someone to keep our team accountable in the worst way.

Beverly is overrated af, people look at his antics and think hes doing good things on the floor, if russ still here, hope both fight each other n get suspended for the season

I am chill, this could go a number of ways. It depends what happens next. I can think of a lot of deals that started out kind of like this. Man, when we traded for Jabbar, we gutted the team. It was scary. Pretty similar to when we got Shaq, though I don't remember being as worried about that trade. ????? Trades are tough these days, it takes a couple of moves to get where you want to go and you have to start somewhere.

I’m clearly on the side that is okay with this trade depending on how things shake out, but boy those are those a wild set of trades to compare this to lmao

It’s not this deal alone, it’s a pattern. I’m tired of the Lakers just throwing in useful players as if they don’t matter. Beverly might have been bought out and signed for the minimum if we’d waited.

They are clearly not on the same level, but they do show that trades happen in steps and those steps can be scary. The thing is, on top of what ever else is coming, THT did not fit on this team anymore. He did NOT mesh with Lebron, just like RW doesn't. These slower kinds of players who need the ball in their hands and can't shoot are always going to fail with Lebron. The weirdest thing about this, especially in hind sight is that our FO did not seem to know this.

    Gotcha.

I would say this: let's see how this plays out before we judge it entirely. .

I'll say this: if this is the only move we make, I'll just as angry as you.

Yeah I actually like this with the Indiana deal. Lakers have the best frontcourt in the league and serviceable backcourt for shooting and defense. Actually would be a better version of the Bubble Lakers except the wing defense. Need another KCP type and Nunn to be healthy
