Is that worst case scenario suggesting that there is still confidence we can get Kyrie, just that it may need to wait until next year’s free agency?

If so… how? I thought getting the cap room to sign Kyrie became almost impossible after giving Lebron the extension?

I would imagine the worst case scenario would be that we don’t find any takers for Russ, have to play out the year with him getting no value in return, and we still head into next off-season with only ~$20 million in cap and few assets to improve the team (other than maybe still maintaining that picks in that scenario)

I still think the fan base underestimates just how bad the roster was top to bottom last year.

Those guys would easily help us in a number of ways.

I’m not a Pat Bev guy by any means but I could definitely live with that deal.

Why wouldn't it get us a championship?

    1. We surround LBJ and AD with two lethal high percentage/high volume/elite from the corner three-point shooters in Bojan and Beasley. LBJ and AD will constantly be surrounded by shooters and better combinations of shooters/defenders.

    2. We replace wanna be three and D wing Stanley Johnson with actual 3 and D wing in Reddish.

    3. We replace the ball dominant, below average defending and horrible shooting Westbrook with the catch and shoot, all-NBA level defending and above average shooting Beverly.

    4. Rose has developed into a very good three-point shooter in recent years and could be a solid addition to the Lakers 2nd unit. He is better than Shroeder? I think so. Good problem to have log jam with Nunn.

    5. Our underwhelming free agent signings move to the third string where they belong. But they are good depth (especially by third stringers standards) and have the opportunity to break out. Dont sleep on Troy Brown Jr.

It's real easy to sing the praises of new players but the truth is there is a reason they are being moved. Outside of Beverly we don't add much defensively.

    • Bojan is streaky, and turnover-prone. Mid-range game doesn't really complement his perimeter and driving. Doesn't use his length well on D
    • Malik is a great shooter and not a great defender doesn't handle or pass great, Not big enough to handle the big wings we need help with.
    • Cam is great, but too young, inexperienced and not confident.
    • Rose is injury prone, old, now hangs out on the perimeter and though lately has hit well from 3 it hasn't been long and it's low usage.
    • Patrick is great, a bit small, good D, not so much offensievly as a finisher. I like the choice, could care less about the attitude.

One thing I want to bring up again since we're linked together...again, why trade for Pat Bev? I'm going to put aside of my hatred of the player and strictly think of this as asset management...

There's mutual interest, that's apparent, but who else is interested in Pat Bev? It's a tiny scaled down version of the Wall fiasco at the deadline. No one else is going to give up asset(s) to get him and he will be bought out (I know we would technically be giving up assets for the overall package and not strictly him). If we like him, wait them out. Get another player from the Jazz instead. Then Bev will either be in the Knicks deal for salary and bought out or as the Jazz embrace the tank, they'll cut him loose at some point.

I’m bored (and delusional) so I’m going to chose to interpret this as us being close to a Hield/Turner trade and Lebron and his buddies are prepping the fans because they know it’s not as popular or as splashy as a move as a Kyrie trade would have been.

I would definitely prefer to avoid trading for Beverly.

Whether we’re talking about a Russ package, or a separate THT deal, Beverly is not an ideal use of trade chips. If part of the Russ trade, we’d prefer to get back other players from Utah instead. If a THT trade is on the table… well why?

If the objective is to get a defensive minded backup PG, signing Schröder for the minimum makes more sense. If the team really wants Beverly, yeah you can probably get him on a buyout later

But I would imagine the point is that Utah would feel the opposite. They’d push for us to take Beverly over someone more valuable like Clarkson or Conley.

And personally I wouldn’t let that be a deal breaker if it meant they’d still help facilitate Westbrook’s departure, net us multiple roleplayers, and hopefully not cost us too much in terms of draft compensation.

I’m in on a Heild/Turner deal, it’s the best one available of the rumored deals IMO, it just sucks if we give up 2 firsts because we should not have to. My only hesitance is health with Turner, but if healthy he’s a very good defender, and of course it’s addition by subtraction with Russ as well. It can’t be the only deal either, we have to get a PG, maybe something for THT, I just don’t see his fit here anymore.

If you can get Turner, Hield, and sign DS then you need to get something on the perimeter with some defensive chops as a bigger guard or forward. Hield will get played off the court and targeted in the playoffs. So I flip THT and a 2nd for Josh Richardson or Terrance Ross. Neither are in their team's plans but they'll want some compensation for them, hence the 2nd round pick. Each are in the final year of their deal and make roughly the same $, THT isn't in our plans (see signing Walker) and either of those guys are better fits for this roster, actually address a need and would be in the rotation.

    Turner/Bryant/Jones
    AD/JTA/Stan
    Bron/Richardson/Brown
    Hield/AR/Walker
    Nunn/DS

I don't mind that one, we really balance out our wonky roster and our FA signings get slotted in more advantageous roles.

I feel like both the nets and KD came to their senses. They’re so close to being a real threat to win it all. And there is no team that can give the nets what they want while providing KD with a competitor.

If you want to see some good stuff on Turner, check out the Cranjis on Twitter timeline last night. TONS of clips and data.

    Here's a little of it...

i still have a hard time believing that they're just going to move past it all with no further issues, but i agree that there just wasn't anything out there that made sense. though i would like to know what boston was offering along with jaylen brown, because the nets could end up wishing they pulled that one.

    who dat?

***edit*** figured it out, and I don't think you give up big for small when you really don't have quality depth at the position. Not sure what we have qualifies as that tbh.

Plus, not sure about the fit with Lebron, and unfortunately he's not going anywhere.

That's basically my thinking. I'm not high on Pat Bev but his inclusion wouldn't sink a deal for me. It's all about the overall package to me.

It's tough for me to see the Nets just suddenly making it all work. There's talent there of course, but that's a lot of disfunction and various personality issues under one roof.

Cranjis is working hard to sell me on this. lol. I still would prefer not to give up two picks.

not to beat a dead horse, but it's about protections for me. two unprotected picks for those two players is an overpay (not a dramatic overpay, but clearly an overpay).

with other options drying up, i'm sort of hoping for this one to happen now (i still like conley/bogdanovic, too) and might be willing to move picks just to get on with it prior to camp.

we'll see how patient rob plans to be, i guess. lebron agreeing to the max extension has affected my thinking a bit here in that i don't think he does that this early if we weren't going to do something with russ that involved taking on salary past this year. why? because our primary leverage in an irving deal was his impending FA and our theoretical ability to sign him outright. with that option basically dead, i think it means we're moving russ and taking on money.

Agreed. If we can protect at least one of the picks then I'd be good with it. Both picks just makes me feel like we need to get at least one more rotation back from somewhere.
