Early on, like in Vegas, Rob and Marks supposedly reached an agreement on a hypothetical deal and then went their own ways/put it aside for either Marks to complete a deal with KD and/or for Rob to enlist a 3rd team for a few pieces the Nets would take. Nothing has happened since except talk.

That could certainly end up being the case. I based that comment on the reports that we’ve got other deals in play and the confidence the front office is leaking to the media around making more moves. If the reports are true they seem to feel like they will be able to pull some things off.

I still don't think Westbrook is getting traded at all unless it's for Kyrie.

The Los Angeles Lakers will acquire Kyrie Irving in a trade on the 700th page of this thread. Goodnight.

personally, i like the hard stance on this, as i've stated before. russ is now an expiring contract. it shouldn't take picks to dump him unless you're returning something pretty good.

further, it's not even clear the nets would take russ + 2 picks, so why dangle that offer so that our other potential trade partners start using it as a starting point?

this way, when a russ deal does get done (perhaps with the 2 picks attached), the opposing gm gets to look like a genius to fans and media, even if the lakers always planned on going that high.

the next date to look for a russ trade is after durant and/or mitchell moves.

if it doesn't happen right after that, we're opening the year with russ on the roster and waiting to see which team flounders and wants a reset. again, we might be able to start extracting more value then, too.

If the salary cap is really going to increase in a few years, the Lakers need to be sure we don’t Moz/Deng out again. Depending on what our contract situation is at the time, we could get a max player that we wouldn’t have been able to afford.

Another day, more waiting for SlimSoftie to get moved. They are going to drag this out all the way through the start of the season. The Nets already know their season is done- they don’t care about training camp. Does anyone honestly believe that Ben Simmons and whomever they get for Durant is going to be good? I don’t. Maybe if they were able to squeeze Jalen Brown AND Smart from the C-Bags, then they would be okay, but the Nets aren’t dealing from a position of power in this.

well, we know brown's been offered, and that he alone isn't enough. if boston wants to keep smart, i'm guessing grant williams will be demanded along with derrick white. nets could also play hardball and ask for both williamses from boston, or use that to up the draft compensation.

anyway, i think the resulting roster is easily a playoff team in the east:

    claxton/sharpe
    simmons/williams
    brown/oneale
    harris/curry/cam thomas
    kyrie/white

Rob Williams is a copy of Claxton, or vice versa. They are redundant in a roster.

Durant's camp is trying hard to make it happen

This has become so boring, just dragging on leaving so many things in the league stuck, with training camp around the corner

Durant is so unlikeable. Great player but weak willed and disagreeable personality.

When you are the Wolves and sucked your entire existence, at some point you go for broke. If Anthony Edwards ends up being a perennial all star and MVP, the move likely works.

As long as there is a fast track to a championship out there, some team he can bandwagon on and get a quick chip, a team with players that kiss his a** properly when he complains about not getting the ball (Draymond), then KD is willing to put on his man pants and do the work.

stein's not a bullshitter, imo, and he's reporting what he heard in the exact context in which he heard it, and adding commentary that supplied doubt to the statement itself.

and i think his response was good, too: i should have been more careful about using that word in the lede.

note that durant's response didn't refute the heart of the claim: he isn't going to suit up for bkn.
