I mean, from the highlights I've seen, he's big. He has some good natural basketball instincts, but the effort level is not all there. Also, he's got to lose some weight and pick up the pace, he's quite slow and in an up and down pace type of game, he's going to tire out quickly.

Mitch is slowly building a team. I am really liking the Nance pick the more I read about him. He might be that small school sleeper. Like I said earlier, if Upshaw can turn it around, look at our last two years and the pieces we picked up. Randle, Russell, Clarkson, Black, Nance, Upshaw...we are creating a great nucleus.

His jumper looks far better than I would've thought.
His feet were quicker than I would've thought, too.

here's an odd complaint: are there enough summer league minutes to get a fair look at everyone?

It would be a great story for Upshaw (and good for us) if he can turn his life around. I wonder if he does well will a team try and steal him from us.

If he does well and we cut him i'll never forgive mitch

Our only backup is sacre and imo even at his worst upshaw is still better than sacre

Take the attitude issues away and you got yourself a lottery pick.

    We cant mess this up.

I hate when we let players go and they do good somewhere else like gerald green, cdr

Can't someone just sign him outright?

Not enough to generate any data that's all that interesting. Most guys play <200 minutes, I think.

He literally could go from a college wash out to the starter of the LA Lakers.

yes, but I'd to think we'd get a shot to match

pretty sure a smart agent would want a competitive bid as well.

Yeah, if there is a risk to this signing it is this.

But if hes playing well why wouldn't we give him a contract first?

Presumably but we passed on Gerald Green, so it's hard to say.

If he does, that will either be really, really bad news for us because we couldn't get anyone else, or it'll be fantastic news because he was so good he played his way there. Not sure there's an in between. :D

I've been a big critic of Upshaw's, and apparently I wasn't the only one as all 30 teams passed on him.

I'm going to be pulling hard for this kid. Who doesn't love a redemption story? Plus, we badly need a center and if he could salvage his life and career, we may have found a sleeper here.

I didn't want to use a 1st rounder on him, but as an undrafted player, hopefully he shows enough that we lock him into a 2 year minimum deal. I'm really going to follow this kid's progress with great intrigue. Let's go Upshaw, Lakers Nation will be rooting for you!
