That group has one hitter from 3. HB and a moderate hitter in Bron, good luck against the dubs. 3>2

we've seen teams lose that particular gamble in soul-crushing fashion, and we just saw our team go through a very bad 6-7 year process trying to rebuild after a star aged out, so yes, this is my concern. i'm not worried about future trade capital because if we're bad (which i'm expecting), we'll likely have cap room as a means to try to improve in the short-term (assuming we even want to, as we might be tanking).

i'd be curious to hear what their dream scenarios are then. do they want to take on long-term salary on lesser players and nab shorter-term picks from bad teams with no protections (not happening)? or do they want to treat turner as an expiring and add their own draft capital (quite valuable in the short term) to get better players? that's more realistic, though still pretty tricky.

but if they think someone's giving them likely lotto picks for an overpaid bench player with two years left and an oft-injured substar who is unrestricted next year, they need to brace themselves for the impact of definitely not that.

so again, what are pacers fans dreaming up as packages from other teams?

our title team had basically no hitters from three, and you should never plan for one team ahead of time. great chance gs isn't a team you have to beat next year. and boston didn't lose to gs because they didn't have shooters (which they didn't) but because their stars couldn't create for others and weren't scary enough in isolation.

I wouldn’t even call Barnes a hitter. He is efficient, but his 3pt volume is too low. Lebron would be our only high volume 3pt. Shooter.

that team would be big and versatile though. More so than our title team.

It does sort of suck that the Lakers have very little friends to do a fair deal for both sides this off-season. Nobody wants to help us in general, but right now we are left with real vultures to deal with:

Pacers - Pritchard, initiated a tampering investigation against us and refused to trade us Paul George. Ex-C bag Larry Bird remains as a consultant for the Pacers.

Utah - The jazz don’t like us to begin with because we are in the same conference, but they are now being run by the ex-C bag draft pick monger, Danny Ainge.

Spurs - they are still sitting on a lot of cap space and could be used to help facilitate a trade…. But Popovich generally will refuse to help us unless he knows we are getting fleeced.

Knicks - They are now run by former agent Leon Rose. I’m speculating on this, but I have a feeling there’s no love lost here between Rose and Lebron/Klutch. Rose was Lebron’s agent when he came into the league, Rose hired and mentored Rich Paul…. Only to have Paul leave and start his own agency and take Lebron with him. Now half the Lakers roster is Klutch clients. Do you think there’s any hard feelings there?

The only team we have been rumoured to be talking with that doesn’t really seem to have bad history with us are the Brooklyn Nets. Their GM Sean Marks seems to get along professionally with Rob, their owner hasn’t been around long enough to have such negative bias against the Lakers…. But they just have unreasonable expectations of a return for both KD/Kyrie.

Just a random thought I’ve been having…. We have seen ex-C Bags team executives help each other out in deals all the time. We had that happen once in 25 years (Gasol) and Popovich cried foul…

The Lakers don’t even have a lot of ex-players/executives/coaches that would do that for us now. Jerry West works for the local enemy, Mitch and Jordan just don’t seem to deal with the Lakers too much, and Riley is cutthroat and only looks out for himself and his team.

Technically only one pick gets freed up after all the NOP stuff right?

Its the first concern for me.

If we trade both it has to be for someone like Kyrie who moves the needle enough into contending range. Trade both for Indy’s package or the theoretical Utah package, they don’t move the needle enough and we’re stuck with no other way go improve the team (THT and Nunn aren’t exactly attractive assets).

And if we use all our trade capital now, it’ll be harder to retool post Lebron to take advantage of AD’s last couple years.

I honestly think if Miles Bridges wasn’t a d****** we would have traded with Charlotte already.

Agreed, they were the most desperate to clear long term cap space. Their willingness to get a deal done, probably with at most FRP, might have expedited talks with other teams as well.

yeah, just horrible luck with how things shook out. to me, det and charlotte were the teams we could deal with/facilitate. and i didn't realize the deep history with rose in ny, which would explain why they played hardball with us at the deadline when they were clearly dead in the water (it confused me at the time).

but indy, utah, SA as the teams in position to make a mutually beneficial trade...yeesh.

that PG bungle at the outset of rob's tenure still hangs over a lot of things, tbh.

I don’t think Sacramento is trading Barnes for anything we have. Or else it probably would’ve happened already. I can’t imagine with all the talks about Buddy that we didn’t talk about Barnes.

It’s also well known that Rob has no friends in this league and I think that’s a factor in some of these trades.

Sacramento legit thought they had a deal for Hield for Kuz/Harrell and out of nowhere the Lakers did a Westbrook deal. If the players had no idea, I bet Sac was in the dark as well.

Rob’s lack of connections will continue to be an issue. That and the Laker tax is a lot to overcome.

Still quietly hoping that one of these years we will go get our own version of Masai Ujiri.

Tough watching Riley get things done while we’re dealing with Kurt and Rob.

guessing rob packs whenever lebron/klutch do. that was his play, and he got a ring out of it. but yeah, his bad relationships around the league don't help in non-klutch matters (same with klutch's problematic relationships).

and you answered your own question, partially: no way a ujiri takes a job here with kurt in place. the best basketball ops guys won't want to power share with rambis and tim harris. hell no. i wouldn't, either. those guys can't/won't be fired/blamed, and i will. so i want the power.

I don’t want to give up the picks for just anything but right now we’re an injury away from giving a top pick to the Pelicans this season.

Hold out for the best deal but I don’t think the team should be too prideful here either. The current roster isn’t good enough. The franchise is going to hurt itself and our first year coach way more than it will LeBron if it tries to prove some kind of point here.

Yeah. We’ve got some serious infrastructure problems in the front office that have to be resolved to get a tip guy in here.

Bridges definitely has thrown off everything for the team here in Charlotte. Coaching debacle too.

well, we know that at least 4-5 teams will actively tank for a worse record, and we have no incentive to do so. so giving up a top pick would be some extra extra bad luck (not ruling it out, of course!).

i don't think it's about pride, though--it's about not ending up in a worse position for several consecutive years in the future, imo.

i'm all for improving, and i'm all for moving westbrook, but you can't be rash here. we've tried to for months and haven't found anything. maybe there's nothing to be found.
