It's possible KD asked to have Kyrie traded. When BRK said "we looked and the market is bad, Lakers only, we'd rather wait and negotiate"...then KD issued his trade demand. Even if he didn't do it because of that, the Nets have Simmons who needs the ball, they are not looking to bring Kyrie back. Rob knows what he's doing, feigning disinterest, the phone call with the LBJ/AD/RW is a smokescreen and Russ is being fished in. His reward for getting with the program and backing Darv and playing ball will be to get his walking papers here shortly. Serves him right for all the attitude he showed.

Rob is smart enough to know that if you going to create believability then it's best to believe it. At least temporarily. I think we'll act like Russ is our man until Marks folds his hand and relents for whatever Rob is asking. What's his choice? Keep a disgruntled Kyrie on the bench? When you have no competing offers then you do not have a viable product. Your market just dropped out from under you. He needs to see this as doing them a favor and get Curry out of the deal.

    Well-stated.

I think Chris Haynes is a Klutch shill. I just think he is painting the narrative that Klutch had nothing do with Westbrook being traded if/when it happens.

If Westbrook and his camp wanted to spin something, I don't think it would come from Haynes especially after that hit piece.

    IMO.

I think we had this conversation before and like I said then, I don’t think we can sign Kyrie outright. At least not without asking him and Lebron taking a 25-30% pay cut or us stripping the whole roster outside of AD and Lebron.

Here was my last post on that subject:

I think we could get close to the cap space, but we probably have to get rid of Christie, Nunn and Reaves and give THT away (if he is here) by attaching a first because teams would know we’d be trying to sign Kyrie.

To me that’s terrible moves and with three injury prone players I doubt we win anything.

No, we did not have this conversation, and I provided the math here. THT can be got rid of and I am sure he will be well before needing to foolishly give him up with a (first? really? come on) I think we will get an asset(s) back for THT. You can do the simple math. It can be done without stripping the whole roster most of which is usually made up of vet mins anyways. The cap is 133, figure it out.

We had a similar conversation on page 576 of this thread when you mentioned we could get 4 stars.

Ok well the maths on 133 million.

    Contracted: 55.4m

    40m - AD
    11m - THT
    2.6m - Jones
    1.8m - Christie

    Cap holds: 59.6m

    50.8m - Lebron
    6.8m - Nunn
    2m - Reaves

Let’s assume Jones outperforms his contract and opts out. Let’s also assume Nunn is let go and you find a trade partner to absorb THT for cap space. That leaves 38.4m of cap space.

Kyrie could earn 46.5m and Lebron around 50m at their full max’s. So each earning 44m is pretty good and gets it done.

But then your roster is Lebron, AD, Kyrie, Reaves and Christie + a mMLE and vet minimums. Your 3 main guys are injury prone.

EDIT: I’m not sure we can even keep Reaves in this scenario, I’m sure others will offer him much more. So in reality you got the 3 and Christie + a mMLE.

Also the only teams that can absorb THT into their cap are also tanking and want assets. Why is Utah or OKC with shrewd GM’s just going to help the lakers get another star? They won’t, they’ll try to bleed us for a first to take THT because he has low value. And if you can’t get rid of THT and want to keep Nunn you’re asking Lebron and Kyrie to take 35m each. Which is a steep discount.

The more I think about it, the more I want to go the two stars approach with some depth. Having 3 injury prone max level players just sucks and is bad team planning.

oh yeah. Definitely. Guess they realize tweeting about Russ dropping his agent was probably not the move.

I want that since ever. That Miami team was bad for sports. And then the Warriors team was just unreal

Marks and Brooklyn don’t want Westbrook. Acting like the Lakers plan to keep him won’t change that. That is the reason that the Nets are looking at a third team, someone else has to take Russ. Irving wants to be a Net so if the Nets want to keep him, no amount of acting will change that.

Lebron responding “Tuff” to a Schröder IG post, Schröder following up suggesting they should run it back.

I don't want him UNLESS it means no Russ or Bev. If those are the three options, then give me DS.

It'd be something if we brought back DS and Trezz (who at the min will be an absolute steal), they slot into the backup roles they should've had and give that explosive pairing we thought we were getting off the bench.

Yeah, if we can’t find a trade for Westbrook, I’d rather tell him to sit at home and bring back Schröder than have to watch Russ for another year.

Ignore the noise folks! It's all filler content from the media to keep clicks & ratings up while things are quiet. Facts are key, not opinions!

I will let you know when the tides turn!!!

I can’t stand DS but even I might have to agree with you on that.

i don't know which noise i'm to ignore. the kyrie trade front has been quiet for nearly a week now.

anyway, i agree that schroder/nunn is an upgrade at pg compared to what we ran last year at the spot.

i'm also still really high on abandoning the kyrie trade and trying to get conley for substantially less.
