Having a player the caliber of Kyrie Irving basically falling into your lap, immediately changes the perspective though. I still don't believe that we were ever interested in Charlotte and Hayward.

Am just saying that it’s no longer looking to Nets like we’re willing to walk from the deal and start the season with him. Russ wants out and knows LeBron wants him gone for someone else. Like our whole roster felt his first year here and the cluster bleep of an attempt to force NO’s hand to trade AD mid season. He can’t play here any longer no matter how sincere the new coach has been with him.

I’m actually kind of annoyed at how overboard Ham is going with all the fake praise he’s lavishing on Russ when he knows damn well that this black hole of a player will never play one more game as a Laker.
We get it- Russ was once a super stat stuffer!!! Wooo-hoooo. He’s trying to sell it to anyone in the Nets FO that we just may start the season with Russ. Everyone understands this charade- none more than a guy like Sean Marks.

I don’t know. He probably does think he has a good plan and Russ being in the contract year/rest of his career on the line situation has to go along with it. Just guessing he is prepared himself to start the season with him. But yeah he lays on the praise a lot.

We were prepared to rock and roll with Russ, that wasn't fake at all. Then Brooklyn decided to get tough with Kyrie, and so now both he and KD want out. s*** happens in the NBA, sometimes circumstances work out in your favor. It's all good to me, Kyrie is a higher level talent.

I mean, it was brought up in a conversation about DJ Augustin. Do we need to quibble? I just haven't 100% given up on Smith yet. Could just be like a GPII situation. Very different players obviously, but you get what I mean.

I don't mind using the picks OR the players (THT/Nunn) to get the deal done. I just wouldn't give up everything as we have very few assets and it would be nice to potentially flip those into more pieces.

Honestly - Idk why we're still in holding pattern here. Russ + 2 picks for Kyrie/Curry. Like what is the hold up? That deal should be done yesterday. I don't care if other teams aren't interested...like Jovan said, anything can change once KD is traded. Give them the 2 picks so that the Nets can "sell it" to their fans that they got as good of a deal as they could get for Kyrie. For us, it makes TOO much sense. We shouldn't be able to just trade Russ without giving up something of value and getting a SUPERSTAR and an actual high level rotation player like Seth Curry...idk why everyone is making such a big deal out of the 2027 and 2029 picks...we still have picks before then and we still have 2028 pick...like we've been able to find gems like every year in the 2nd round and even undrafted! How badly do we need the picks? We need to decide on what we're trying to do here...maximize LeBron/AD or blow it up for the future? None of this "in between" s*** man....if you're not trying to get Kyrie, then get rid of LeBron while you're at it, and blow it all up and start over. Don't go in between trying to fit a square peg into a round hole...we can't have russ with LeBron/AD again, and now that everything is out there in the public about Kyrie wanting Lakers...we can't even salvage that relationship and Russ is just going to pout AGAIN this year, in spite of what Ham has been praising on him (which is honestly weird).

Lakers cannot hold out on a Kyrie deal because of future picks...future picks is expected in a deal like this because Kyrie is for sure going to be play A LOT better with LeBron and AD than he did with KD or Tatum/Brown, and everybody in the league knows that (and it's probably why Sean Marks doesn't want to make a deal cuz he knows it makes us favorites to win it all).

You get Kyrie while dumping Russ...it's literally multiplication by subtraction.

The truth is other than getting it over with, we do not need the Kyrie trade to happen today. There is no market for him other than us, and if some team happens to jump in later on then you can start talking about adding more assets. If there is still no trade in a few months and we are about to head to camp then I can also see adding incentives to it just to get it done.

Until one or the other happens, I'd hold firm. No sense in bidding against ourselves so we can get Kyrie on July 11th rather than some other time in the summer.

I believe the rumors that the Nets are trying to lock in their Durant deal first. While it can always fall apart, the general thought that the deal is pretty much done seems to be widespread.

As long as the line up is settled before training camp we're good.

That said, I am curious about what other deals we may have up our sleeves once this is all over.

2 picks for Kyrie alone is too much because we need shooting as well but if you get Curry back I think it’s worth it. You can still potentially move THT later.

The two picks is way too much, IMO.

For Kyrie? Yeah, get 1 and a youngish player and we'll take back Harris.

    Or something like that.

Kyrie is too much of an enigma.

    Other deals besides Kyrie?

Depends what we have to give out.

Kyrie alone chances the calculus, though.

Adding one of the best iso players in the league who's also lights out from three is a win-win with this roster.

That changes what you can do offensively a thousand times.
