i think the big question is the assumption of health. if lebron and AD play 70+ games, i agree with this. but i expect lebron to miss 20 games per from here on out, and AD...well, we know all about that. so if we assume they each play 65 games or so, then i think we're in the play-in with russ and in the 4-6 range with irving.

in a playoff series with irving as part of a big three, nobody is interesting in playing us and only the clips and gs should feel comfortable.

I'm still worried about our wing situation defensively and don't think a Kyrie trade fixes it. But it would seemingly add at least one, likely two great shooters to the team which would make up for other areas.

I’ve thought this a few times about him. He’s got to win both of these deals (at least on paper) and I don’t think that’s really possible.

the weird thing (imo) is that he really doesn't. he just needs to build a competitive team in the short-term while recovering some picks. that should be very doable. several of the trades i've seen suggested for kd (and our hypothetical offer for kyrie) should accomplish this.

i really thought when marks took over there, he was doing a good job rebuilding from the ground up, and then he just sold it all for kyrie and kd. he should just go back to doing what he was doing. i think it was going to work and they were going to be like a richer toronto. instead they're dysfunctional lakers east.

I get the feeling that going back to his old approach is not enough for him but I admit that’s based on the rumored proposals. Sounds like he’s getting solid offers for both guys but he seems to want more.

yeah, who knows. seems like a lot of posturing. i just can't imagine that he and ownership aren't re-thinking the big star-chasing game after this experience.

Yep. Also, depends on what we have going out in a potential Irving trade and what we can bring back.

I'm not sold on Harris' health at all. I'm more inclined to bring back Seth and another 3/4.

    But we will see.

True. Everyone penciled them in for at least one title and instead they completely flamed out. That’s a really damaging blow to that org mentally and emotionally.

I don't think Marks is on the hot seat here. It seems like Kyrie is pissed that the Nets front office didn't offer him a full max and he probably has some residual anger from the whole vaccine thing. Durant is also pissed because they're not willing to pay Kyrie a full max and probably because he just watched the Warriors win the title with everyone talking about how embarrassing that is for him. The thing is, it sounds like Marks and Tsai are united in their stance against Kyrie. Basically, I think Marks and Tsai are on the same page on all of this; they're both fed up with Kyrie and annoyed that these two guys have introduced so much dysfunction into the organization.

We will see but I think the crap flows downhill and someone will pay the price for that kind of failure. I don't think Marks or Nash should feel comfortable right now.

Yes, ultimately all the decisions come through them, of course they deserve some of the blame for the mess

Marc Stein twitter thread on Kyrie situation. If you click it, other tweets in the thread talk about the Russ dynamic with him knowing Lebron and AD are pushing for Kyrie.

Rob has clearly got the smokescreen rolling and has the added advantage/built-in excuse for not shopping a PG hard by having Nunn on the books. This is a unique situation though where you have a legit superstar and we are the only ones that want the guy. I don't see how all the leverage is not in our hands. Kyrie has scared off all other possibilities for signing elsewhere, the man will not resign.

    Rob's options:

    • Deal with Marks as he wants to for a deal. Take it or leave it. If we get some real concession like Curry AND Harris, ok pay him, give him the picks, use THT, Nunn, find a 3rd team, whatever.
    • Tell Marks we'll pass and we'll just sign Kyrie after you pay him off and he clears waivers. We'll take him for the min. Thank you very much.
    • You can suffer with him on your roster all year as we will with Westbrook and we'll just sign Kyrie next summer.

    What else has Marks got?
