It's all speculation,but I assume they are looking at the 20 million owed to Harris next season. That cuts into what we can offer Kyrie. Then Lebron may or may not take a pay cut. In a perfect world we get an expiring in Curry, trade THT and Nunn for another expiring contract, and we have a bunch of flexibility next summer.

Also, if Kyrie goes Kyrie and refuses to play for some unforeseen reason (highly likely) Curry would be a nice fallback shooter PG option to buy us a few wins.

Couldn't possibly disagree with you more. Last year's team couldn't get us out of the new play-in-6-team-lotto and you want to compare that to the bubble team. Injuries to AD, LBJ aside. Your "role players can be replaced" explanation is lacking, to say the least.

 

I'm sorry, but the role players helped big time in the title season. We had complete and utter trash last year. Rondo, KCP... no one stepped up like they did.

 

Last year's team had AD and Lebron together for 21 games. They were together for 27 in the previous season with all those great role players you speak of, the only reason they made the play in game, was James played the 1st 42 games and AD joined him for 22 of those. If they played in 30 or less in the season before (,the chip season) that bunch doesn't make the playoffs at all either. Your idea that some role players, would overcome our best two players playing in 20 plus games is what's lacking. We have ample evidence on this subject IMO

 

Role players alway help. Every team has them. Lebron and AD played a full season during the title season didn't they? You don't think that was the most critical factor? Role players haven't won any Championships without the stars balling out. That's NBA basketball.

 

My reading of the Haynes report is that this is a done deal. They’ll throw in Harris, we’ll throw in one first round pick.

There will just be an extended song and dance so that both sides can convince their fanbase they played hardball and won some concessions.
