It would STILL be because of Westbrook.

Sorry if this belongs in the non-Lakers NBA section, but I can't for the life of me figure out why GSW let Payton II walk.

It's always been a team sport since the game was invented. It's 5 players on the court. Some of them happen to be more important than others.

Likely because paying GP II 5 mil would have cost them 25 million in lux tax.

Yea, but their management has been blathering on about not caring about the luxury tax.

I don't care what the hell they say, paying 25 million for a role player when you don't have to ain't gonna happen.

I get why the FO prefers Curry to Harris. Cheaper expiring contract and not coming off surgery. Harris is making close to $20 mill per for two more years. Curry at $8.5 mill next season.

That said I would be happy to get either one back. Let’s not get too stuck on this. The main thing is swapping Russ for Kyrie. Either Harris or Curry gives us the added shooting we need.

It is smart for the Lakers to ask for Curry (whether they really want him or not more than Harris) for a negotiating standpoint because of the injury last season and the money owed to him. Also stressing that they want to have that 2023 cap space...

Ultimately, taking on Harris could limit the trade asset package (meaning only one of the 2027/29 first round picks)

Nets, because of their cap situation WOULD NOT be looking to add to the Westbrook package from our end....and that (more likely than not) would include THT and Reaves....

Nunn could be (because of his 5 million salary) be someone the Lakers "could" squeeze in the deal on a Harris take back, but even then I find that unlikely; because they would rather keep him along with THT for a separate trade (hopefully a wing).

    Westbrook for Irving/Curry and obviously Irving/Harris work on their own. The difference for the Nets is they would be TAKING ON MONEY with the Curry deal while also getting a player (RW) they rather not have. {47 million going to Brooklyn; 45.4 going to Lakers}

Any one of these deals should/could happen with the less assets from Lakers with the MORE money the Nets would save....

    1) Lakers trade Westbrook, Nunn and (2) 2nd round picks for all three of Irving, Harris and Curry (Nets save 11.7 million in the trade and Lakers have Irving WAIVE his 5.5 million trade kicker for a total of 17.2 million in savings and they can probably save 5 million or so in buying out RW if they want)

    2) Lakers trade Westbrook and either the 2027 or 2029 1st round pick (not both) for Irving and Harris (Nets save 8.5 million in the trade and Lakers have Irving WAIVE his 5.5 million trade kicker for a total of 14 million in savings and they can probably save 5 million or so in buying out RW if they want)

    3) Lakers trade Westbrook and either 2027 or 2029 1st round pick and a swap option in other for Irving and Curry (Nets add 1.6 million in the trade by again Lakers have Irving waive trade kicker)

Why not? Great shooting and decent expiring.

Based on our off-season, I want all three. I hope Rob is faking hesitancy on Harris as a negotiating ploy to get some protection on the pick(s) and to get this expanded out to Kyrie, Harris, AND Seth.

They can have THT and Nunn if they want them, if it will drop the pick price. We still have not seen proof of life from Nunn. That's alarming. I'll even settle for one of those videos that Russ posted last year where a bunch of 13 year old are swinging pads at him while he drives the basket.

Lakers probably dont want to take on both Curry and Harris....

So it probably comes down to (1) or (2) #1 picks or perhaps none at all if they are willing to swallow more tax hit and add Harris to the deal instead of the more "risk free" Curry.....
