Why would we have to include a first if nobody else wants him and he’s only going to re sign with us in a year? Just match the salaries and get er done!
The Nets have ZERO leverage here.

How about this legal 3 team trade between Lakers/Nets/Hornets:
    http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=2y25dw63

Lakers trade Westbrook, THT, Nunn, 2027 pick (protected),
    Lakers receive Kyrie, Hayward, Plumlee

    Nets trade Kyrie
Nets receive Kelly Oubre (expiring), THT (expiring), Nunn (expiring), 2027 pick

    Hornets trade Hayward, Oubre, Plumlee
    Hornets receive Westbrook, 2029 pick

The nets do this trade because nobody else will take Kyrie and they can view it as the beginnings of a rebuild. They get 3 young players on expiring contracts, so they can have their bird rights and a year to determine if they want to keep any of them long term , plus a draft pick.

The Hornets do this trade because there were also rumours that they wanted to try to salary dump Hayward and was willing to give up last week’s lotto pick to anyone willing to take on Hayward. They give up Oubre/Plumlee because that’s the price they have to pay to get Hayward off their salary books.

The Lakers do this trade because they get Kyrie, plus Hayward and Plumlee who could really help fill out the roster and help provide a pretty good depth chart. Having Hayward as your 4th best player would be great because he can thrive like how Lamar Odom did when the Lakers had Kobe/Bynum/Gasol. Hayward would have a lot of open looks with Kyrie/AD/Lebron drawing so much attention. Plumlee might be a decent fit beside AD because he’s got true center size, is athletic for a big, capable of blocking shots and shooting the 3.

The Lakers would need to still fill out the roster with vet minimum players and I would go for Dennis Schroder (he might not get a mini MLE offer), Thomas Bryant, and TJ Warren.

The new lakers depth chart would be pretty nice:

    Irving/Schroder
    Reaves/Walker/Christie/Brown
    Lebron/Hayward (super 6th man who gets 28-32 min/game)/Johnson
    AD/Warren
    Plumlee/Damion Jones/Bryant

Leave one roster spot open for a buyout candidate and we are ready to be competitors again!!

You’re correct that Kyrie was a UFA when he signed to Brooklyn, so he didn’t have any prior bird rights he may have had from Cleveland/Boston.

But this will actually now be the 4th year of that deal he signed.

So now that the third year has completed, Nets have his full bird rights which would transfer in a trade.

He had a player option that he executed, so if he was traded to us we would have his full bird rights.

Also I hope we don't send THT in the Kyrie trade and only one first. I'd prefer to bundle THT with the trade exception and Gabriel + a first for an impact wing instead, a 3&D like OG.

I do like the idea of keeping THT out of the Kyrie trade so that we could try to dangle him in another trade… but I don’t think there is a chance in hell that package could get you OG.

Good deal, yeah I missed that it was the 4th year. The hoopshype reference you pulled up was the exact one I was looking at as well.

Also I assume THT will be gone on the books next year would leave AD @ 40.6 and probably a few others like Reeves & Stan so we'll be around 45 I think the cap will be 124-125 so that leaves 79-80 for LBJ and Kyrie. Doable. Depending on who else we take back in a Kyrie deal but we have bird rights on LBJ and would as well for Kyrie.

I need at least one more “Westbrook’s not getting traded” post from Slick before he does.

Well..THT, Nunn, and the trade exception are close enough to match Myles Turner's salary. Might as well go all in!

Or just add Gabriel and a 1st rd pick.

I'd trade Westbrook for Kyrie. No problem with that. Way better than those other garbage ideas!!

The issue for Toronto is OG, Gary Trent Jr and Scottie Barnes all play the same positions. You’re going to have FVV at the 1 and Precious, Siakam and Boucher at the 4 and 5.

That leaves 2 spots for 3 players who all want to start. Scottie isn’t the odd man out, so how about we trade for either OG or Trent Jr and give them a promising bench wing back in THT and a project PF in Gabriel. The first will be super valuable too.

I’d honestly do two first picks for OG if we could swing it or add Nunn instead.

Or just go for Myles Turner if they say no.

Kyrie and Curry matches Westbrook's contract too. Throw them 1 pick and the other to Indy. It's not like we aren't taking on hell a risks in this scenario. All we need is for Turner to ask out!

If we can trade Westbrook for Kyrie (and not get fleeced), I’m packing Russ’ bags, packing up his house and paying for the freight. I’ll also make a nice pyre for Kyrie’s ancestors and take away any earth shaped spheres in the lakers practice facilities.

I can’t speak for Slick, but I was never a Russ Stan - I respect his career and him as a person, so I support him while he is here. When it comes to trading him, I just want to win trades and long term outcomes for the lakers. Trading Russ for Hayward or Wall or other long term salary injured players was just the wrong move.

4 injury risks stars, a bunch of youngsters, no cap space for the foreseeable future, no picks for awhile. On the flipside...The talent, the drama, the intrigue, the potential Chips!! That's Hollywood, that's the Lakers!! It would be riveting, must watch TV. I'm down for all of that!!

    I've been busy all day.

Catching up. Thanks for keeping me up to date. Had to work today, unfortunately.

The Los Angeles Klutch Lakers, right? I seen now why we signed Lonnie Walker. Favor to Klutch and what better place to rehab your value?

    We need more shooting, though.

    Enters in ***Kyrie***. LOL.
