All true... still pisses me off people are willing to join the Tennants though. I miss Sterling, wish he moved that team somewhere else.

I am not even sure why people are upset about Wall to the Clippers. We don't even know if he can play anymore, he's completely rusty, and with him, PG and Kawhi, they might actually play 70 games... I mean, combined.

Kyrie, on the other hand, actually proved that he's sane, and I'm glad to see that.

Regardless of whether we keep Russ or trade him, we need wings. I’d sign Juan Toscano-Anderson in a heartbeat. Very capable wing who got buried on Golden State’s roster behind Wiggins and Porter.

i'm not sure he proved he's sane, nor is it a sure thing that this will best for him long-term. there's a chance that had he taken our mini-mle that he'd end up making the same amount of money he does in the end. if things go south in bkn again, is kyrie looking at a max contract from anyone? nobody would s&t for him as it stands. i get that it's a huge risk taking the one-year paycut and counting on other parties to play ball, but it's also something of a risk to stay in a bad situation on a one-year deal (we know; we employ russ).

anyway, it's weird that people are acting like the kyrie/bkn thing is settled. it's not like they kissed and made up. he just said he's taking their money. it's a mess over there, and i don't think they're going to come out great from it.

i actually have concerns about any gs role player. i just remember back when the spurs were gs, and they had all these great role players that basically evaporated the second they left that culture/system. and we do NOT have a good culture/system at present. at all. we might be better off looking for misfits from other places that might find their way here (like monk). svtzr's suggestion of beasley was one i hadn't considered but makes some sense.

Can't have Beas and Pip Jr on the same team. That's some Days Of Our Lives level drama.

i think he is, right? but he may just be reading into monk's comments and then heard something else?

anyway, i think from an asset standpoint, monk at the mini mle probably beats whatever we'd get. but from a team-building standpoint, yes, it's not ideal. that said, as i mentioned in the monk thread (i think), we still have avenues via trade to get a wing. or we can slot THT in as a wing (his standing reach and weight are really those of an nba sf) and hope he gets back on track.

clearly not. nobody wants to admit they're in the russ talks, but i think several teams are without fully grasping it yet. it may take some dust to settle on FA before it can happen, though. dreams must be crushed before folks can splash some water on their face and move forward.

Here's my concerns with that approach: we very well may not find a dance partner to take on Russ or THT until after free agency. If we give Monk the mini mid and then the already thin wing market dries up and we can only move Russ for another guard, we're in the poo poo. We can't get into the play-in if our best wing defender is Stan.

We tried miscasting THT last year and it was a disaster. He's not a wing defender and as of April was not a shooter either. If he's playing up one and two spots and also doing what he's not good at, then what are we doing? It's the same as what they're going to have Russ try to do, if he's still here. Won't work for either. Only difference is THT will try and is a good soldier, Russ is a coach's worst nightmare.

    Bullet points

    Simons: $80m/4 year
Noel could go to Clipps for Ibaka trade X (opening up Brunson money for NY)
    Looney: $9m a year
    GP2: $6-7m a year

if THT can't defend sfs (i think he can), we need to move on right now. because he can't defend pgs, and i worry about him chasing shooters around screens (though maybe he's capable there).

i think if THT played russ's spot last year (starting guard, initiator) he'd have looked better. there just wasn't room for two guys with that general profile. and there still isn't, of course.

anyway, if we can't move russ, we can't have a defensive team, imo. he's just that big of an issue on that end.

finally, i'm just not blown away but what are likely the mini-mle candidates as wing defenders. even guys like prince and warren are not historically good defenders. of the list svtzr provided (good list!), really only otto porter (whom i don't think will be in play for us) qualifies. oladipo is small for what we want and hasn't been a plus defender in years. ingles is going to be 35 (!) years old and is coming off a torn acl. matthews will be 36 and just had his worst season in a while. danuel house interests me, but only as a vet min.

my point is that monk may represent maximizing our limited assets and could turn himself into a good trade piece (or allow us to part with other players to bring in things we need).

anyway, we'll see what the market bears in a couple days.

teams should drive up the price on looney and gpII. neither has had a big payday yet. you're telling me nobody is going to even offer full MLE for either? that's wild.

and the clips using TEs to jack up their already giant payroll while we let caruso walk is just shameful.

Nerlens is a good pickup for the Clips.
