Regarding Kyrie and giving up money: the only real way I see that happening is if Rob can work some magic with his shoe deal. It's unlikely, but it Rob can get Nike to take him back by convincing them the additional revenue from him being a Laker is worth the crazy, then that would offset any loss Kyrie would take on the contract side. If not Nike, there's plenty of other shoe brands in town. In theory a former agent will have much better relationships with shoe companies than most of the other GMs.

I believe it was 17 million. Interesting enough, we criticize athletes for putting money ahead of social issues(IE Jordan's Republicans buy shoes too in the 90s) and when someone values their principals enough to not collect 17 million, many throw that person under the bus. Can't win either way in society.

Now, as far as him taking the MLE, that idea is not realistic and there will need to be a 3rd or 4th team involved for the 5% chance he gets traded to the Lakers. The issue should it happen after that is how are you going to fix a major issue on your defense with a player who might only play 50 games and doesn't play defense well? The two teams in the Finals this year were stout on defense. Defense will matter the deeper you go into the playoffs. The Lakers in 2020 were a juggernaut on defense with AD getting robbed of the DOPY that year to boot. It's a lot to think about.

My guess is, I don't have any evidence of this, is the shoe companies do not muddy the waters with back door deals to cover salaries in the NBA. Things become too obvious and are too public for outside endorsers to play in that arena, risking getting jettisoned by the NBA.

yeah, my point was that he stuck to his principles to the tune of a ton of cash once already, whether i agree with the choice or not (personally, i think his scientific views are troublingly inaccurate on pretty much all fronts).

people said it was "crazy" for him to turn down a lot of money. i'm saying a) he's crazy and b) has already turned down lots of money.

i don't think he helps us win, either.

Alright, in the scenario where we trade Westbrook+heavily protected future pick for Kyrie… the fit is still so much better having Kyrie instead of Westbrook. It makes the team easier to rebuild by trading THT for a need and there are players we may be able to entice for the vet minimum and our taxpayer MLE.

    So if we…
    - Trade Westbrook + protected pick for Kyrie
    - Trade THT to Sacramento for Rashaun Holmes
    - Sign Otto Porter Jr for MLE (I don’t think he stays in Golden State, their luxury tax is through the roof and they want to re-sign Wiggins and Poole).
    - For the vet minimum, Garry Harris, Victor Oladipo, Markieff Morris, Tauren Prince, Thomas Bryant, Javale McGee.

The Lakers depth chart looks pretty respectable compared to last season:

    Kyrie/Nunn/Reaves
    Harris/Oladipo/Christie
    Lebron/Prince/Stan
    AD/Porter Jr/Morris
    Holmes/T Bryant/McGee

In the event Kyrie misses time and Nunn’s injury is career ending, Harris, Oladipo, and Reaves can play point with Lebron being the primary ball handler. Harris and Oladipo can create their own shots if needed, but would just need to hit open shots, cut and finish easy baskets, and play some defense. Basically we want them to be the JR Smith during Lebrons Cleveland days. Not too much to ask is it?

I thought we are supposed to just stick to basketball?
Continuing to call Kyrie “crazy” based on his differing beliefs about how he sees the world is getting old.
I get it, people like to feel safe by believing everything their government spoon feeds them. Others, based on facts, scientific data, real world events, history, and information put forth by real accredited doctors who have spoken out and gotten silenced, choose to use their minds and not follow every single narrative that is shoved down their throats.
If we can’t defend Kyrie’s right as a sane individual to speak his mind on this site, then we shouldn’t have to come here and constantly read how “crazy” he his.
You can’t have it both ways.

I prefer to do something like this, instead of trade for Kyrie:

    Three team trade:

Lakers get: Trent, Hayward and Oubre

    Raptors get: THT, Nunn, 2023 Hornets 1st, 2027 Lakers 1st, 2029 Lakers 1st

    Hornets get: Westbrook and Christie

    Why for Lakers?
They dump Westbrook. They get multiple three and D wings (which are hard to find). Lakers could utilize MLE on a center, or Irving (very unlikely). I'm comfortable starting Reeves at the 1.

    Why for Raptors?
They have expressed interest in THT and Trent's name has been mentioned in trades. They also get Nunn, who is still a very good player. They get a tremendous draft pick haul.

    Why for Hornets?
They clear a significant amount of salary and they get a good young player to boot in Christie.

sorry but Kyrie is an idiot, and so are most of you in the "red pill" community. Nothing but senseless contrarianism, not believing the media, but then fully believing something they've read on some shady blog on the internet, disregarding overwhelming scientific consensus because of political reasons and it goes on and on.

I'm so tired of these idiots.

but we shouldn't derail this thread.

No one should believe the media. I could give 100 instances on major issues where they have collectively lied to us....

Anyone who believes what they say now and refuse to accept they all have political agendas are in fact sheep....

That being said, let's try and keep it to basketball...

    Yeah.
You completely disregard all of the doctors who came out in the beginning that had real evidence contrary to the false narrative. They are real doctors who were silenced.
I am not an idiot, nor do I blindly believe anything throw into my face. I use my brain, the scientific method, and weigh all the information, not just that forced down my throat.
    I’m not here to argue.
My point was to show the hypocrisy regarding Kyrie and his choice. Either we continue to let people call him “crazy” and then let us who think he’s not defend his right to critical thinking and freedom of choice or we stop them labeling him all together.
I have no reason to bring this up if the labeling stops.
