I bet if Magic were here, he would have totally got us Wood.

Yep. I don't understand this deal and the Derrick White one for example. What a steal by the Mavs

I think Weezy is right, these deals are there to be had at really cheap prices, but just not for the lakers. No one wants the bad publicity angle of helping us.

lol, i stand corrected (sort of). we tanked THT's value so bad with the russ trade that our package was probably viewed as similar or worse, tbh.

also, nice to have some salary around that you don't care about moving. three minimums wouldn't have gotten us a wood-level salary.

definitely this. i actually go back to the paul geoge situation. shortly after they take over, pelinka uses some dirty pool to get george to demand a trade, and they we don't meet the asking price (which was understandably high given the circumstances, but as i said at the time, we needed to finish the deal right then). it's then a year of bad publicity that ends with egg on our face when george decides to stay in okc. just devastatingly bad for the front office. rob, in particular, may never recover. which is a shame because i do think he's clever in general (yes, he understands the cap, morons in the press) and has some good and different ideas.

anyway, even without rob, i also agree that people don't want to help the lakers. pau gasol will be the last for which we don't pay through the nose, i guess (again, irony: nobody was willing to pay more for pau).

i think it was pika that brought up derrick white, and that's a perfect example. NO WAY IN HELL SA gives us derrick white for expirings that they have no interest in retaining. that's the laker tax. and it's real.

what annoys me is that when ainge was in boston and they spent most of their time publicly campaigning to get other teams' stars, nobody enacted a C Bags tax.

edit: separately, i'm still dubious on wood. i was watching some film, and that's a just a really selfish player. shades of drummond. laying off ballhandlers because he doesn't want his man to catch a dump-off, almost never actually connecting on screens. very talented, but just not a winning approach. dallas will have its work cut out trying to get him to play team ball on both ends. they sort of just got porzingis back.

interesting side note here is that bkn could have had this pick and deferred it, which means they're betting that philly picks higher than 23 next year.

anyway, green's expiring plus the #23 should net something. if they use the pick, you know it's because they failed. don't let morey fool you.

One less team in the running for Bamba. RFAs are pipe, but one can hope.

The Laker tax is very real. Some deals just aren't going to be there for us. Especially with certain franchises who are vocal about their desire to keep us from doing well.

While I'd like to hope that Rob has developed some good relationships out there, things like the stunt we pulled with the Kings can't help.

Green coming off an ACL injury at his age probably won't get much. However OKC likes to collect draft picks so they might have a young player Philly likes.

still not a guarantee this makes luka happy. boban was his pal, and if wood continues to be a half-a** and a locker room problem, it's not a great thing. there's a reason wood has bounced around the league, even after putting up big numbers. yes, if he suddenly gets it, it's huge. but that just hasn't happened. he's 27, right? this guy is only a couple years younger than AD, whom i'm told is about to retire due to the fragility that comes with old age.

Man Wood was a flat out steal at 13 million dollars. Everyone doesn't have to be a superstar, and everyone doesn't excell right away in this league. The production out performed his contract IMO. I'm not going to hate on them, Dallas did good on that trade. I wish we got him.

I think they try to use those are sweeteners in a Tobias Harris package. He's not fitting and he's making in mid $30m range. That's an awful contract.

Also, a defense liability, but he can score.

Mavs got a good deal for a guy that could help right away.

But I'm not up in arms about missing out on Christian Wood, lol.

I do like the Wood deal for Dallas. Seems low to medium risk with a potentially high reward. I think we need moves like that.

Of course, if we did that then suddenly trading away a pick and fillers would be the equivalent of trading Prime Jordan and Pippen....

so, what you're saying is: westbrook for harris/green/23rd pick. i'm in.

his defense has been really bad, and his own quotes don't do much to prove that he's learned that the game is about winning and not putting up stats. but yeah, no real downside for dallas. they're looking to contend right now, and the odds that the 26th pick was going to aid in that were close to zero. they gave up nothing else. it's a win pretty much no matter what.

yes. we could use it. but my guess is they turned down THT and a protected 1st for wood (in fact, i think there was some reporting to that effect at the deadline), so what can you do?

Ross shot worse than Westbrook from 3 last season. The field too. I don't want that guy at all. Okeke shoots even worse but he's only 23. That's not a great trade idea for THT imo.
