Yeah. Definitely on the Phil / Rambis side of this. I don't get the fascination with Doc at all. Especially since we might have to compensate Philly for him. I knew someone had to be keeping that rumor alive with Plachke continuing to throw it out there. We just flat out shouldn't hire him.

I still lean toward Ham in the group of finalists. He's worked in a number of different environments and serving multiple roles. I think he has a good chance of being able to coach the group we have now as well as adapt to the team changing moving forward.

Some good news. This is coming from Philly's side though and whoever in their front office is still on good terms with Klutch from the Simmons era.

We just need to hire a coach (not named Doc) and then I'll be glad when this rumor can officially die.

They can't admit to wanting it or it's tampering. Dummies.

I believe the first words of my post were : "If there is no head coach gig available"

Did you get to see Kareem play? Kareem impacted the defense every time down. He didn't decide to block a couple shots, beat his chest and make faces at the camera, then take the rest of the game off. He changed how teams had to play offense against his teams.

i think he doesn't believe being an assistant anywhere is worth it at this point. or if he's going to do it, he wants to work with people he already knows and trusts.

you said he'd be stupid not to take it. i disagree. he doesn't have to take this job. he'll have other opportunities. or he can just not. he's rich.

Again, lol, IF there is NO head coach job available to him, he'd be stupid not to take the highest paying, most in-the-limelight assistant job in the league.
Stotts is worth only about 6 mil, he won't turn his nose up at 1.5 mil.

Stotts will be paid his full salary by Portland this next season for just sitting on the couch. He might reject a 1.5 offer and not think twice. Plus it helps his brand that he was one of our finalists.

Taking an assistant job as a relatively successful head coach is definitely a step back.

unless you are just a basketball junkie and need your fix no matter what, or you were doing a favor for a former player like Mike Dantoni did for Nash, I don’t think it’s a good career move just because of optics.

what other major head coach candidate who is established would do that? Only mildly successful candidates come to mind

It is my understanding that Terry's contract has ended and his last contract was for the '21-'22 season.

I could be wrong, but I read an article the other day that said Portland owed him next year. Can’t remember where I read it though.

Stotts was paid through the 21-22 season. He and Portland parted ways after not being able to agree on an extension to that contract last year.

Correct he was paid last season for doing nothing.

He posted a .515 record during his years there, all of which included Damian Lillard every year as well as CJ McCollum for every year but the first. Quite a few good players coming in and out as Paul Allen was a spender and their roster was one of the most pricey year after year. His stats are nothing to go crazy about based on the tools he has had. He's not in a position to demand a head coach position from us.

    Ham it is! Hallelujah!

Best available option. Glad we got our pick and didn't settle or let them go to Charlotte. Curious as to the terms

    Update with some terms

Shocked we finally got with the times. 4 years!

Experienced staff with experience and it sounds like he'll have some say so. Are we learning from our mistakes?

I like it. Of the available candidates he was the one I would want. So glad it wasn’t Doc. Now it’s up to the Lakers to give him a competent roster and give him the support he deserves unlike they did with Vogel. Coach and FO need to be on the same page.
