I think we can all relate in at least one area of our lives if we are being real.

Kurt may or may not be getting a bad rap. Nobody had any issues with the front office when we were winning. But when things go South, everything is on the table for scrutiny. I like that Jeanie isn't a knee jerk decision maker and seeks wise counsel. We may not agree with her choices that she seeks out, but it's better than a know it all exec that doesn't know it all.

right. dolan's worse, as was mid-career mark cuban (at the beginning he let his managers work, but he took over to disastrous effect for a while). i just think the lakers have the cache to attract better basketball minds than the ones we have enlisted.

and i actually like the rob pick as a gm, as former agents clearly have great insight into the business and have been innovators here. but magic as prez and kurt as shadow prez have been unfortunate, imo. magic just killed a bunch of assets in what seemed like drunken rages, and kurt's been documented as meddling in counterproductive ways two levels down from his post.

^ Was me. Go back and read the first few pages. Most of those people don't even post here anymore and almost all were wrong.

Thanks for the motivation to go back and look, though.

    Lol.

Wasn’t quite sure where to put this, but Jeanie is the owner, she’s been here longer than any specific GM

Well, he’s not wrong in regards to the rush to having a “big three.” We all, well most of us, know that depth is a necessity on a Championship Team. You can’t just sign a bunch of washed names, who once did something in their careers, out there and expect success.

yeah, he's not wrong about that, and i've been anti-big three since we were chasing kawhi.

but the idea that boston or miami or dallas is building a dynasty or something is silly. if any of them gets a ring this year, it's a one-off that occurred to a weird circumstance (injured opponents) moreso than some sort of ingenius roster building philosophy.

i will say that every team left is VERY GOOD defensively, which, again, pisses me off to no end. we had that down, dammit.

Ok but where did Worthy say they’ve built a dynasty? All he said was they have built and we haven’t, and it’s true. They have continuity because their teams have been together for like 5 years now, and because of that they are regularly making it to the conference finals and Finals. While on the other hand our roster turnover has cost us big, it’s killed our team. Worthy wasn’t exaggerating here, to me he was stating a fact. We need to look at how we are doing things, because it isn’t sustainable anymore. The Lakers aren’t this destination that players flock to anymore, plenty of franchises can make these players endorsement money. We need to start looking to build solid teams through the draft in addition to stars we attract to sign here. The trade for them model especially isn’t going to work when we constantly have like 7 players on minimum deals and 2 draft picks between now and 2030.

yeah, i agree with you and was probably attributing points to worthy that the press is making (imo).

i do think that the lakers still carry a special spot for super duper stars, and we should continue making that our business. but it's possible to do that whilst maintaining continuity and committing to winning systems (see gs). if you just build teams that win, your players have more value in trade. i think the miami big three ruined a lot of things in terms of team-building philosophies, as did gs getting kd. these are incredibly rare things that you can't count on to work for you (ask mark cuban).

with our natural advantages, if we operated like toronto or gs, we'd be a juggernaut (like gs is). but we're a mom and pop shop.

I also like that this is coming from a long time employee of the Lakers. Sure he doesn’t work in the front office, but if Jeanie trusts Magic and his extremely basic basketball takes she should sure as hell listen to a smart guy like Worthy.

Avoiding rebuilding lengthens the pain. Trade Lebron and let’s do this already.

I believe Rob trades 1st round picks because he has to preserve his precious cap space, a guaranteed rookie contract encroaches that space.

i actually think lots of teams have proven you don't have to tear down and rebuild. you're just as likely to build a contender by simply continually trying as you are by bottoming out for three years and collecting picks. maybe more likely.

bottoming out became fashionable because it preserved management jobs.

i actually think they'd be in great shape had they moved those picks for a star. the point was that when they were in the lotto, they had their picks and thus had options. this is why we can't attach unprotected picks to russ in any trade.
