Yeah really? Maybe that's why there is also rebounds, assists, steals and blocks there too.

And I can think of some defensive sequences I could not dream of Kareem pulling off at any age like the back to back steals, number of games for sure is lacking.

Right..SMH...Lebron is way past done according to some but somehow 30/8/6 are artificially inflated numbers any old scrub can put up.

So the three finalists are just now actually interviewing for the job? I thought we have already talked with these guys.

We did but they were on Zoom.

These next round of interviews with the finalist for the position are doing in+person interviews in Los Angeles.

unless Doc Rivers becomes available ***allegedly***

Nothing to get excited about at this point unless we start trading some foo's with big contracts and bad attitudes

I have faith Terry Stotts could design an offence that could get more out of a Westbrook and Lebron pairing.

That's unfortunate. I mean of course he wants to be a head coach, but there are very few openings this summer. When the HC jobs dry up, I wonder if that changes.

I’m starting to warm towards Ham. Maybe he can unlock the old AD due to his experience working with a similar type of talented big such as Giannis.

He would be a fantastic lead assistant (Stotts), but he is overqualified for the position.

Can't blame him for turning it down.

You also don't need him to design a good offense. You can still assemble a decent staff under Ham.

If Stotts doesn't want to be a lead assistant its not going to work. He can't handle LA. He's a small town coach. If he were coaching more teachable and selfless guys I would be alright but its massive egos like Lebron and Russ. Not sure if his personality fits what this team needs which is a fiery coach who keeps people accountable and has a thick skin to tune out the outside noise.

If there is no head coach gig available, Stotts is stupid not to take what is likely a 1.5mil (Jason Kidd) or more asst head coach gig which after 1 year led to the Dallas head coach gig or potentially the Laker head coach gig or whatever head coach gig opens up.

maybe. though he's a finalist for the HC job. why would he--in the middle of the interview process--volunteer to be the assistant? his counter-argument to the stepping stone idea is that he doesn't need one. he's a finalist for the most attractive job (ok, not most attractive--highest profile) on the market without having been an assistant last year.

another thing is that it seems like a lot of times the established coaches like to work with folks they know while they wait for their next chance (e.g., mike brown in gs, stotts when he went to dallas after milwaukee, etc.).

as much as ham/stotts makes sense to us (and me!), when i saw they were both finalists, it made think it was unlikely to occur.

i do wonder if maybe ham can bring charles lee with him, though? and as lavar indicated, there's still a lot of possibilities for knowledgeable assistants.

I would expect a guy like Ham who has been around the league for a bit to be able to attract a good assistant.

I am glad to hear we at least approached Stotts last year for an assistant role.

Never thought I'd say this but...Rob, please listen to Kurt. But just this once.

Like I said when it was revealed that Phil was involved, I trust him more than anyone else tied to the team when it comes to picking a coach. He picked Kerr for NY (Kerr passed) and was a strong proponent of both Lue and then Vogel. His tree is bad, but his first instincts on who he wants hired is damn good.

Bron?! What are you thinking? First Mark Jackson and now Doc? "The players" = AD and he'll do whatever Bron wants.

    Darvin is the better pick.

But I don't trust any of these sources anymore unless it is Shams or Woj breaking information or giving out Intel.

The best person to listen to are the local best reporters: Broderick Turner, Pincus, etc.

    Turner is probably the best.

I don’t blame Stotts for signaling that he doesn’t want to be an assistant. If I’m interviewing for a coveted job, I’m trying to convey ultimate confidence that I’m the best for that job. Not pre-emptively settling for a consolation prize. Maybe he changes his tune if the Lakers do actually hire Ham, maybe not.

On the other hand, if I’m an organization that has an important role to fill, I want to make my preferred candidate feel wanted. Make them know that I have faith in their abilities and would be ecstatic to have them join my team. In no way convey the idea that they are actually a backup plan for me.

So if I’m Ham and I already have an offer from Charlotte on the table, and the Lakers are still dragging their feet by the end of this week even when I know they’ve now interviewed all their “finalists”, I’m signing with Charlotte and not looking back. ESPECIALLY, if I got any whiff that the Lakers were continuing to stall to see if Doc Rivers becomes available.
