    Yes. Why I mentioned it.

    He's also worked with Atkinson.

of course phil's coaching tree is garbage when his former assistants tried running the triangle (or some form of it) on crap teams

the triangle will only work to success when you have HOF level players running it

I'm ok with Ham, Stotts, or Atkinson. I was honestly okay with keeping Vogel also.

The success (or failure) of this team really comes down to the availability of Lebron and AD. If either one or both miss significant time again, we're screwed and therefore, whoever we hire as coach will be gone in 2-3 years anyways.

Coaches come and go, but fans are forever.

this site has some great fans

    this site has great mods

when the team stinks it’s not much fun around here for anyone

thanks to everyone for keeping things relatively positive around here.

thanks to the mods for managing the roller coaster of fan emotions with level headedness and professionalism

Thanks for grace when any of us fall short of the standard that has been set

Atkinson Stotts Ham, in that order. Ham is unproven so he is dead last in my book. Atkinson did the most with the least, coaching the rebuilding Nets roster to prominence so I’m thinking Reaves will be used well. Stotts was a consistent winner in the regular season and pulled some playoff surprises with Dame. We’ll probably hate anyone we hire after a few games:Laugh:

Let's see take Alec Baldwin's advice and use it with regards to Ham
    [IMG]

We made missteps last time we identified our primary target. Are we willing to offer a real contract? You know with real money and multiple years and allowing them to have say so in their assistants? Or will Ham have a Lakers cake and end up with Charlotte?

From that article, it seems Jeanie will say that she is
But I'll believe it when I see it.

Some more stuff on these finalists and where we're at in the process. This from Buha and Oram with the Athletic

Kyle Goon with the OC Register lays out the case for and against the final 3

We need unproven out of the available candidates, we need to think outside of the box. If Nurse or some other top level coach were available, sure, go with the known, but Stotts is a retread, another from the coaching carousel, or musical chairs. All I hear about him is that he’s opposite Vogel, he’s great on offense and doesn’t know defense. No thanks. I keep hearing Ham is ready for this job, he’s super well regarded around the league, I think he’s the smarter choice. Stotts or Atkinson would be great as assistants though.

I still have PTSD from when Stotts was a coach here in Atlanta. He's grown a lot since then and had a solid run in Portland, but he was one of the worst coaches in franchise history in Atlanta in 03-04. Putrid. 52-85. Since the 50s, the only two worse Hawks coaches were Lloyd Piece and Lon Kruger. Like I said, a lot changes in 20 years but that still makes me twitch.

The only person that cares more about "family" is this guy
    [IMG]

You gotta think that factors heavily into him being at the head of the pack.

He's running away with all polls of who fans think should be the next coach, based on the finalists. Nice to see the fan based unified on this one.

doubt any coach could have had success with those hawks rosters where the best players were jason terry and shareef abdur-rahim

Would it be a good idea to do what we did with Vogel, and hire a big time associate head coach (Kidd) to help whoever we get?

After Reading the strengths and weaknesses of Ham/Stotts/Atkinson… it makes me want to hire all 3 to have a really good coaching team.

Make Ham the head coach, he might be open to having both Stotts and Atkinson on his staff since he would value these two are good and have experience. Stotts can help lead the offense, Atkinson leads player development and Ham can lead the defensive schemes.

The big thing about that is I’m sure Stotts and Atkinson can get head coaching jobs which is why they wouldn’t be open to this idea. But what if we offer them near head-coaching level salaries to be top assistants? It also helps send a sign to the rest of the league the Lakers are not being cheap and are serious about spending to be good.

Give Stotts and Atkinson both $4-5 mil/season contracts, give Ham a bit more since he will be the head coach ($6.5-7mil/season?)

Regardless of what happens with the coaching search, there’s no way Linda Rambis should be sitting in on the interview process like last time…..like WTH?
