I really don't think Okafor and Russell's ceilings are that far apart. In other words, I don't see a case where we'd strike out on MJ by mistakenly selecting Bowie. At worst, we get an Olajuwon out of Okafor.

And I could live with the talent differential between Olajuwon and MJ.

    His passing is 'transcendent.'

I love your out of the box lines of thinking...

I see their respective ceilings maybe not being too far apart, but their floors are chasms apart. I know everyone thinks Russell won't bust, but there's some potential there for it and definitely I think he has a tough time against NBA defenders at first. I think if he ends up here, a season of marinating behind Kobe is ideal for him.

God that is so depressing to read when Okafor clearly has the ability to demand and deal with double teams from day one. This is killing me.

To get away from the #2 pick for a moment: I think if Justin Anderson isn't available at #27, the Lakers should trade down to the 40s and a 2nd rounder next year.

    Adrian Wojnarowski @WojYahooNBA
Knicks keep pursuing deals to move out of No. 4 spot and back in lottery, league sources tell Yahoo.

It really is. Pretty much confirms what we were seeing in him from minute one.

^ I really hope that's true. I've been a fan of drafting Okafor since day one.

I agree that Russell's floor is much lower. More reason to prefer Okafor. Russell is not worth gambling for that extra inch of a ceiling (if it even exists)

It just goes back to our reasoning that a prospect with the higher floor must be taken with a #2 pick. Different story if this were #5.

Agreed completely. I'll bet that Okafor is the next Al Jefferson before I bet that Russell is the next Curry and in that case, I'll take the safer pick. There's nothing wrong with the safer pick especially since we have almost no assets. And that's not even to say that Okafor won't be much BETTER than Al Jefferson, but that if he played an NBA game tomorrow he could be Al Jefferson. If Russell played tomorrow is he Curry? I don't think so.

But of course if Mitch thinks he is, I won't argue... I'll be excited for different reasons if we end up with Russell over Okafor.

I'll be excited for Okafor because we know what we're going to get.

I'll be excited for Russell because Mitch knows something we don't, which, usually is the case.

Woj says the Lakers are leaning Okafor. Russell talk is a smoke screen he says. Said it on Fox Sports 1

Good Job, Ding! You had me fooled. Never again will I listen to your or your 'team sources.' LOL!!! In Woj I Trust.
