We only obtained our two biggest guards through the draft, and signed our bigs through free agency/trade.

bynum and divac were the only successful big men that the lakers actually groomed and developed

wilt, kareem, and shaq all came up and were developed by other teams before coming to LA

    Brian Windhorst on SC:

"With news that Lakers might take Russell, Boston and New York are trying to move up in the draft to snag Okafor #3, with Boston reportedly preparing a massive deal for Philly."

oh, man. Please be right Kevin!

Okafor is good, but he's the boring pick imo. He says he's a winner, but he's seems to nice or modest when he talks. Nothing wrong with that. But when we drafted Randle he was like yeah they're gonna regret passing up on me, it was exciting. Russell displays the same confidence and there's something special about his vibe.

Technically, Kobe was a trade. It cost us Vlade. At the time Vlade was a top 6-7 center. Kobe didn't come cheap.

Lakers are rarely this high in the draft and I'm pretty most of us don't just casually follow the draft this close. But, maybe it's the homer in me, this year it's a little crazier because the Lakers are #2 and Mitch is using his Jedi mind tricks.

That's the thing. He seems to wow everyone who talks to him. The ESPN guys were raving about him being a star last night and how great he was in interviews.

We will see what happens but I can definitely see him being a real leader in a few seasons.

Man, am I conflicted right now. I've been in the Okafor camp for weeks now. I still prefer Okafor by a big margin. To me it was a no brainer to pick one of these two incredibly talented bigs. But with the possibility of landing LMA, I don't know . . . I guess I get the idea of drafting Russell?

If it were me I'd still pick Okafor though. I don't see what some of you see in Russell. But Jerry West did say he had star potential and that guy is the best evaluator of talent I've ever heard of.

Well wup DE do if we get ourselves a star guard of our own. I'm sure we and Jack and TWC Behind the Scenes will love him lots, plus he'll be obviously great for our offense. I sure as bleep hope Mitch has us a star BIG defender lined up as well for AD, Cousins, Gasol, Okafor and the rest of those bigs when they're killing us in post seasons to come. Since Okafor will be obviously Great on offense too turning into 2nd coming of Tim Duncan with the 2nd advantage of his size contributing to that defensive effort.

I'm big on Boom Boom too but can he be that guy??

again, i'll trust the FO, but teams are lining up to trade for the #3 only after they heard it could be okafor...

I mean, I see the Curry comparison. Not as quick as Steph, but certainly a fast release. He's got superb handles and vision and a smoothness to his game. Certainly a confident player and definitely has leadership potential.

Well, LJ, not to sound negative on Okafor, he didn't help matters. Kevin Ding wrote the following:

'It didn't help that, according to team sources, Okafor's second predraft workout with the Lakers was a distinct drop-off from the first—whereas Russell was channeling Stephen Curry's velvety stroke in his follow-up workout with the team.'

Wonder if thats true about okafor and why its barely coming out now. After the 2nd workout reports "were" they were impressed and he was gonna be the pick now all of a sudden his workout sucked and dlo gonna be a superstar

Yeah I'm alright with Russell, but I still prefer Okafor by a large margin. I don't care WHO the Lakers think they're getting in FA, I take Okafor still. I double down on that pick.

Take Okafor and if you get Love/Aldridge you either slide one of the young guys to the bench or you move Randle to SF because Lord knows we won't have the money for another SF.

Aldridge/Okafor is a GREAT fit offensively. I know it makes a little more sense to go Russell at #2 if you think you've got a shot at a big, but I think Aldridge/Okafor offensively is immediately an awesome fit. Okafor plays inside and crashes the offensive glass for Aldridge. Aldridge spaces the floor for Okafor and also crashes the offensive glass. They'd make a tremendous duo I think.

Yeah with all the recent Okafor FUD going around..... what does that tell you now? I still hope Mitch is just trying to work Hinke. As far as this "Star" thing Okafor is going to be a dominating BIG type of "Star" with his play. Julius will too with his, but he can fill the charisma need for us if Media finds Jahlil lacking.
