guessing she'd dodge, but has anyone in the press even tried to ask her whether she gave rob the green light to pay caruso? i'd have a follow-up question in the event of either answer, which is why i'm guessing she dodges.

Lakers just sold their 20 year identity. 20 year house that Kobe and Shaq built so they can slap some lame .com on the house. They teamed up with Wish on their jerseys before they slapped some high sodium, heart destroying food. They revoked the greatest Lakers season tickets after all he did for the franchise.

Cowards and greedy people are among us all the time. We either don't give them our time or ignore it.

That was Staples selling the naming rights to the stadium. Lakers don’t have a say in it.

don't get me wrong--magic's not a great voice on management matters in general--but what was wrong with what he said there? i think in december i was still of the mind that things could change with some better health. hell, it wasn't until lebron and russ came out and basically said they were done with the season that i completely gave up hope that we might see a decent product on the floor.

Like I care if we go from Staples to Crypto. Oh noes, because office supplies are what this franchise has been all about.

I and a decent number of others could tell the Westbrook thing wasn’t going to work a couple weeks into the season. I’d think a basketball mind like Magic could see the same. Jeanie should absolutely have been concerned, trusted people around her saying “nah it’s fine” is why we suck. I guess Magic also being in on decision making after he quit on the team is kind of laughable as well.

I don’t mind Magic in an outside consulting role. Honestly felt like that and coming in to help us with star free agents is the role he should’ve always been in.

it doesn’t surprise me that they talk either.

as for his advice, well, we had made our bed so trying to see if the stars could right the ship wasn’t a crazy thought. Especially given the difficulty we experienced with even small trade attempts.

yeah, as long as magic isn't tasked with actually making the choices, it's fine by me. he's still a positive association for the franchise. we don't want another jerry west situation if it can be avoided.

    Interesting takes here.

Some @ LG provide a different perspective. .

    Like the comparing and contrasting.

oh, i agree. the lakers would be better if the buss family sold to a richer owner more interested in winning than in preserving some sort of tradition.

i'm just saying that having iconic former players positively associated with the team is good. a better ownership group would leverage that publicly and privately let the professionals you hired do their jobs.

i do have a scary thought experiment: what happens if lebron had decided to go to the knicks? do we fully become the knicks (i think so). but do the knicks get restored? i wonder. dolan's terrible. worse than the buss kids. but how much worse?

we'd be way better off if ballmer had bought us. probably still get lebron, too.

The problem with Magic is it’s a retread. There’s no creativity here, every single time a job is open Jeanie turns to former Lakers. And she’s gotten cheap apparently. Sorry, you have to pay to win. She didn’t pay up, and now she’s likely not going to get any playoff revenue

If they actually could have done this deal then they should have. That's one that I wanted. Probably the only realistic one. Wood could be a great complementary player for AD going forward. I wouldn't have moved Westbrook and the pick for Wall, but including THT and the pick to add Wood without having to lose Nunn (good contract next year and could be the starting PG) - that is a NO brainer for me.

I've lost almost all faith in this FO sadly.

But the article emphasizes they turned down the trade because of the Luxury Tax hit. That's not a FO decision based on basketball as the #1 priority. That's an ownership decision based on $$$ as the #1 priority. The FO would simply be following the requirements of ownership.

I’m lumping ownership into FO. I thought they were all included in that term. But point taken.
