In my desperation I’ll do the Russ THT Nunn and Wall Gordon, free up a spot

 

Seems like Pincus “passed on” quote is being taken out of context.

If anything, I’d guess it’s moreso that we’ve given up on our pursuit because we realize we can’t put together a package to meet what Detroit is looking for.

Tried skimming through the podcast that the Pincus quote is from, couldn’t quite find that quote but did hear some interesting points from him regarding THT’s value.

THT’s contract may actually lower his value in that he only has the rest of this season, next season, and then a player option. So even if a team is high on THT’s potential, if he lives up to that next year then he’s going to opt out and look for a big pay increase. Other teams are going to factor that in. Usually if you’re taking on a project type of player, you’d want them on a more cost controlled contract.

 

when i heard grant still wanted to be a focal point on offense, i passed. that's obviously not a winning strategy.

and if i hear one more person trying to trade westbrook and THT for wall and gordon, i'm going to flip out. this does not improve our situation in any single way.

no offense, kareem, but that's just the panic trade to end all panic trades. it checks zero boxes. it checks negative boxes.

lol houston driving up the non-existent gordon market. he's paid 20 per through next year, and is a 33-year old small scoring guard who's trended down to slightly-above-replacement player value. but yeah, you can have our 1st rounder.

 

Wall and Gordon would not really move the needle for us in my opinion

that would be a desperate move and nothing else.

 

I'd welcome either or both... if they're bought out, which isn't happening this year.

I'm not comfortable with their injuries or with giving even more power to Klutch.

Also we've struggled to build continuity with our lineups. Wall and Gordon would be too much to try and incorporate. Like I said earlier, I like Russ better because he's the devil you know.

 

Can someone please explain to me, like I'm 5-years old, why we'd even consider trading Westbrook for Wall, when his contract is just as cumbersome, and he's even more useless (i.e. not playing), and when doing so would mean giving up a pick or picks?

 

They would only consider that if they feel with Westbrook it gets to the point of being "addition by subtraction". Example - he can't handle being benched down the stretch of games and becomes a cancer. It's very unlikely however and Pelinka would be a fool to include a first.

 

I’ve been talked out of the idea by now, but if hypothetically we could do that trade WITHOUT giving up the first round pick … the rationale would be:

• Holding the fact that the rebuilding Houston team doesn’t want to play Wall against him may be misleading. By all accounts Wall is healthy (or as healthy as someone his age who had major injuries a few years ago could be), and Klutch may have a better feel for what kind of playing shape he’s actually in. It could potentially be argued that Wall’s playstyle is a better fit.
• But more importantly, some of just want to see Russ gone, by any means. Addition by subtraction. Even if Wall ended up being unable to play, just getting rid of Russ and letting our other guys play more would be nice. Would we be a better team? Probably not. But would watching the games be more enjoyable without having to see Russ dribble the ball off his feet again or clank another shot off the top of the backboard? For me, yes.

 

I'm with you. Wall is a better playmaker. And I believe more humble to understand his role. Biggest opportunity of his life, Westbrook already has a career established.

If he doesn't play, we are better without Westbrook, so that would help Monk, Reaves getting more playing time. And Nunn and THT would have a shot too, who knows if we actually don't need to move them?

We know what we get with Russ. And it will not give us rings. So I'm all about trying a different way
